Student Policy/ Permission to Register
McPherson County Special Education Cooperative (McCSEC) has access to digital text through resources that include INFINITEXT, BOOKSHARE, and LEARNING ALLY. These resources provide digital text through teacher and/or student accounts to students with eligible print disabilities covered under the Chafee Copyright Amendment and applicable regulations. Individuals who are eligible for such services, as defined by the Library of Congress include:
- Blind Individuals whose visual acuity is 20/200 or less in the better eye with correcting glasses, or whose widest diameter of visual field subtends an angular distance no greater than 20 degrees
- Persons whose visual disability, with correction and regardless of optical measurement is certified by a competent authority as preventing reading of standard printed material
- Persons certified by competent authority as unable to read or unable to use standard printed materials as a result of physical limitations
- Persons certified by competent authority as having a reading disability resulting from organic dysfunction and/or sufficient severity to prevent their reading printed material in a normal manner
In order to qualify to use Materials, McCSEC must have a physical copy of the book earmarked for use by the student for whom the Material is intended. McCSEC will submit eligibility certification for students, which includes name, date of birth, school district, school, grade level, and qualifying disability.
Student Responsibilities
- The student will not copy or reproduce any of the Materials, nor allow anyone else to do so
- The Materials are only for the student’s own use, not to be shared with others
- District policies regarding Acceptable Use of technology will be followed
- In the event that McCSEC-owned hardware, software, or other equipment is checked out to a student, the student and parent/legal guardian agrees to properly use and care for the equipment, and will assume the risk of loss by theft, destruction, or damage. If the equipment is damaged or returned with any accessories missing or damaged, as determined by staff members, McCSEC will charge the student/parent/legal guardian the repair/replacement cost. If the equipment is lost or stolen, the student/parent/legal guardian will be financially responsible for the cost of replacement. Damage or loss must be reported immediately.
