Student Navigator (FT)

Location: Dougherty County Campus

Albany Technical College is seeking an individual who is well-qualified and highly motivated to fill the positon of Student Navigator. The Student Navigator is responsible for coordinating and conducting focused advising and student support services to help students persist in their program of study. The Student Navigator provides services which include student advisement, academic progress review (traditional, online, and hybrid) and the development and coordination of retention efforts for new and continuing students. The Student Navigator gathers statistical information and develops strategies to retain students. Under general supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Student Navigator is responsible for advising students on academic requirements and selection of courses and assisting students in developing and personalizing an education plan and disseminating information on institutional policies and procedures. He/she will act as the point of contact for the Go Back Move On initiative. The Student Navigator will be responsible for the operation and management of an early alert system. He/she will develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff and implement innovative retention programs and services for new, at-risk and enrolled students. The Student Navigator will be responsible for the design and coordination of intervention services, programs, and initiatives focused on student retention and success. He/she will use reports and retention data research and analysis to identify obstacles to student retention and success. The Student Navigator will evaluate and determine the transfer of credits; research course descriptions to determine transferability; review and interpret placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites. He/she will understand the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.; perform and interpret degree audits; understand graduation requirements for programs; monitor student registration activities and recommend solutions for academic difficulties. The Student Navigator will coordinate communications to the students regarding advisement, academic calendar, and other related issues; maintain accurate electronic records of interactions with students; refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as financial aid assistance, career advisement, admissions processes, business office questions; stayabreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates. He/she will engage in professional development activities; stay current with information technology skills; participate in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives; and participate in institutional student development and retention programs.

Minimum Qualifications: The applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or an equivalent field from an accredited college or university *AND* have two (2) years of related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: The applicant must possess a Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or an equivalent field from an accredited college or university *AND* have two (3) years of related work experience.

Physical Demands: The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
