Student Activity Code of Conduct

This contract is being activated for ______(student)

2014-2015 Basketball Season

According to the Deer Creek Middle School student policy on discipline, examples of conduct which violate expectations are defined, but not limited to…

*Disruptive Behavior- Behaving in a manner that disrupts or interferes with educational activities (Handbook, Page 10)

*Disrespect- Responding in a rude and or impertinent manner (Handbook, Page 11)

(Level 1 through Level 5) depending on severity of infraction.

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner which follows the behavior code for Deer Creek Middle School. Participation in extracurricular activities are only permissible if the student is academically eligible, and if the student acts in a way which is in accordance with the expectations of conduct.

Varsity is a competitive squad and therefore the coach plays those players who he/she feels are the strongest at that time. Issues dealing with playing time will not be discussed on the varsity squad.

The JV focus is to develop the skills of all athletes so that those players can challenge varsity positions in the future. Issues dealing with playing time will not be discussed on the junior varsity squad.

Disrespecting a coach

1st Offense

Disrespecting a coach will cause the player loss of playing time

2nd Offense

Loss of playing time and the player will be placed on an individual behavior contract.

Technical Fouls

1st Offense

Level 1: Disrespectful-(Examples of disrespect rolling of eyes, questioning a referee or stomping feet) - will result in loss of playing time equal to one quarter.

Level 2: Physical contact and/or using foul language will result in loss of playing time for the remainder of the game.

2nd Technical Foul of the season

The same rules apply as above

3rd Technical Foul of the season

Same consequences apply but the player will be placed on and individual behavior contract

According to O.S.S.A.A. two technical fouls will result in an automatic ejection from the game. Players will sit out the next two games.

Missing Practice

·  A coach must be contacted upon the athlete being absent from a practice.

·  Athlete absent from a practice can and will result in shortened playing time and loss of starting position.

Missing Games

·  Athlete will be allowed to choose between school sport vs. school sport without any

repercussion.

·  Athlete will be allowed to choose between school sport vs. outside activity with

repercussion (ie playing time, starting position, JV vs. Varsity).

Not being picked up from practice or games on time

Please be on time when picking up your student-athlete. Students must be picked up promptly. On game days if the coach has to wait more than 15 minutes after the game the following guidelines will be followed.

1st time

Warning

2nd time

The player may not practice after school for one week and will miss one game.

3rd time

The player will not be allowed to attend after school practice for the remainder of the year and they will miss 2 games.

4th time

The player will not be allowed to play for the remainder of the season.

Expectations of Partnership

Our goal is to have a positive season where student athletes, parents, and coaching staff can work together to create an environment that is cohesive for everyone.

* I have reviewed the attached Student Activity Code of Conduct.

* I will not approach a coach after the game about issues relating to the game; however, a coach may approach parents after the game to discuss disciplinary issues.

* I need to make an appointment to talk with a coach.

* I will refrain from sitting or standing directly behind or beside the home bench during the game

* I will not enter the locker room area without assistance from an administrator during games.

* I will not approach referees at anytime before, after, or during a game.

* I understand the Deer Creek Athletic Parent Handbook is posted on the web and signing this form indicates the athletes and parents willingness to follow all rules as outlined. I further understand that there may be sanctions or penalties if I do not.
