Patrick Healey is a colorist and landscape painter living and working in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. His art career began while studying at the Loyola Rome Center in Italy in 1978-79 and his first solo exhibit was at the University of Massachusetts O’Leary Library in 1987, followed by an exhibit in the Massachusetts Statehouse in Boston in 1988. After exploring the images and mills of Lowell in several exhibits he started painting Portsmouth with his “Sign Series” in 1990. This is Patrick’s second formal exhibit at Strawbery Banke Museum, a favorite subject. Nationally known, with solo or group exhibitions in the Time Life Building in Chicago, Whistler House Museum in Lowell, Elliot House Gallery at Harvard and the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, he hosted a retrospective at The Music Hall, “"Patrick Healey Painting and Drawing Twenty-Five Years" in 2004. “As the departure point for so many evocative Patrick Healey oils, Strawbery Banke Museum is delighted to host this showcase of his work over the past 24 years,” said Lawrence J. Yerdon, president and CEO. “The enhancements we have made on the museum campus have not changed the enduring character of the neighborhood, the light and shadows of the streetscape and the colors of the seasons that Patrick evokes. His imaginative use of color – not always strictly photographic – reminds us that while time and taste change over time, the authentic sense of the place that is Strawbery Banke remains.”
Strawbery Banke Museum (www.strawberybanke.org), is a 501c3 non-profit founded in 1958 to save a 10-acre site and the historic downtown core of Portsmouth, New Hampshire from urban renewal. The authentic 10-acre outdoor history museum is dedicated to bringing 300* years of American history to life. The Museum is a place for children, adults, multigenerational families and groups to gather to explore heritage gardens, historic buildings and crafts, preservation programs, hands-on activities, the stories told by costumed role-players and the changing exhibits that offer hours of fun and discovery.
