Stratos Product DevelopmentLends Critical Design Expertise

to Mimic Technologies’ dV-Trainer Surgical Training Device

Seattle, Wash. – January 31, 2012 – Stratos Product Development LLC today announced its partnership with Mimic Technologies to advance the current design of the Mimic dV-Trainer, an independentlyvalidated, highly realistic simulation system for the da Vinci robot that improves patient safety and allows for surgical training, saving operating room time and reducing operational costs.

Stratos is developing an updated version of Mimic’s dV-Trainer that involvescreating a new 3D stereoscope and updating the existing hardware architecture so that the system will be more robust during manufacturing, service and operation. The solution will include miniaturized connectors, a custom fine-gauge cabling solution and reversible parts to minimize overall part count for the pair of gimbals contained in each system. Additionally, Stratos is working with Mimic to redesign the grip with a similar cabling solution to create additional features that improve the overall use of the grip.Read more.

“Mimic’s dV-Trainer is designed with efficacy, ease of use and user comfort in mind,” says Jeff Berkley, founder and CEO of Mimic Technologies. “Stratos is helping us to advance overall system performance so that our master console will not only be suitable for virtual reality robot training, but also for controlling actual robots.”

“One of Stratos’ core assets is a pool of expertise gained over decades of development for many devices and markets,” Sean MacLeod, president, Stratos product development said. “This varied experience allows us to develop unique, highly-innovative solutions for our clients. In the Mimic dV-Trainer project, our engineers applied skills built over years of designing minimally-invasive devices, sophisticated automation and surgical tools.”
