Flexible Supplement Application Form

MRC Flexible Supplement Funds

The MRC have allocated funds for us to award to support some of the costs of more expensive studentship projects.

Supervisors can use this form to apply for funds for:

·  high cost training in recognised areas of strategic need such as quantitative, interdisciplinary or in vivo skills;

·  exceptional training opportunities such as overseas fieldwork, time ‘out of a programme’ to complete a complementary and beneficial placement, or training in new advanced research skills;

·  opportunities to provide training with industry or at the interdisciplinary interface;

·  transitions from PhD to first post-doc positions to increase the competitiveness of outstanding candidates.

The funds are limited and will be awarded competitively.

These funds should not be used to support additional studentships or extend existing studentships unless there is specific justification for outstanding candidates to secure prestigious post-doctoral appointments.

Applications should be submitted by supervisors on behalf of their students who are funded by MRC in any of the following ways:

·  Core DTP Students

·  MRC Industrial CASE Students

·  MRC Unit, Institute, Centre or Partnership Students

·  MRC Clinical Research Training Fellows
