Lieutenant Colonel William Sheridan IV

Lieutenant Colonel Bill Sheridan was born in West Islip, NY and grew up in Miami, FL. After graduating from Coral Gables Senior High School in 1992, he attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on an NROTC scholarship. In June 1996, he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned a Marine Second Lieutenant.

LtCol Sheridan then reported to The Basic School in Quantico, VA to train in Echo Company. After graduation, he moved to Pensacola, FL in May 1997 for flight training. He went through primary training in VT-2 and moved on to Meridian, MS where he trained with VT-9 and VT-7, earning his wings in November 1999.

From Meridian, LtCol Sheridan was given orders to VMFAT-101 in Miramar, CA. In April 2001, he completed the FRS syllabus and reported to the VMFA(AW)-121 Green Knights. There he served as the Reconnaissance Officer, Schedules Officer, Flight Officer, Adjutant, and Administration Officer. While in the squadron, LtCol Sheridan earned his Section Lead, Division Lead, and Air Combat Tactics Instructor qualifications, while accumulating 920 hours in the Hornet. He also graduated from the MAWTS-1 Marine Division Tactics Course in January 2004. While in the squadron, LtCol Sheridan deployed twice to combat insupport of Operations Enduring Freedom, Southern Watch, and Iraqi Freedom.

In June 2004, LtCol Sheridan received orders to Quantico, VA to attend the Expeditionary Warfare School. He graduated in May 2005 on the Commanding General’s Honor Roll. LtCol Sheridan moved back to Miramar, CA for a tour as an Instructor Pilot with the VMFAT-101 Sharpshooters. There he earned his Low Altitude Tactics Instructor and T-34 NATOPS instructor qualifications, while serving as Assistant Logistics Officer, Powerplants Officer, Line Division Officer, T-34 Program Manager, and D-shop Phase Head.

In March 2008, LtCol Sheridan reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373, where he served as the Executive Officer. During that tour, he deployed to Al Taqaddum Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Following a successful combat tour, LtCol Sheridan returned for a second tour with the VMFA(AW)-121 Green Knights in July 2009, serving as the Assistant Operations Officer and Operations Officer during a deployment to the Western Pacific. After returning, he served as the Logistics Officer and Executive Officer. During this tour he earned his Mission Commander and Forward Air Controller (Airborne) qualifications.

In October 2011, LtCol Sheridan was selected to fill an individual augment billet as the Senior Advisor to the Afghan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP) Fifth Brigade Commander in Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan during a one-year combat deployment. Upon returning from deployment, LtCol Sheridan then served as the Executive Officer of MAG-12 in MCAS Iwakuni, Japan from July 2013 until March 2014. In August 2013, he was selected for command of the VMFT-401 Snipers, where he currently serves.

LtCol Sheridan has accumulated over 2200 flight hours and his personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (seven strike/flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
