Determining Goals and Action Steps for 2007-08

Step 1: Advancing Institutional Goals

The Murray State University Strategic Planning Council selected the following three institutional goals for advancement during 2007-08.

Goal 1: The University shall continue to provide greater educational access and academic outreach to Kentucky’s population (Institutional Goal 2.10).

Responsible Party: College Dean, Department Chairs, and Faculty

Action Steps:

AS1.1 Implement new IECE program at Madisonville

AS1.2 Develop collaborative partnership with IECE KCTCS faculty and align IECE courses.

AS1.3 IECE faculty develop off-campus program and course sequence

AS1.4 Recruit and meet with interested students.

AS1.5 Initiate program in Madisonville Fall 2007.

AS1.6 Continue to support and enhance technology outreach with elluminate/on-line/ITV courses

for both on and off-campus courses

Resources: New IECE Faculty, Continuing Education support

Calendar: 2007-2008 academic year

Criteria for Success: Enrolling 10 students

Goal 2: The University shall engage in public service programs with business, industry and labor, public and private schools, governmental agencies, and the general public (Institutional Goal 4.6).

Responsible Party: College Dean, Department Chairs, and Faculty

Action Steps:

AS2.1 The College of Education has a long history of community service and will continue that

goal in the 2007-2008 academic year

AS2.2 Complete Memorandum of Agreement for Public Schools/Private Schools/Agencies/

Head Start

AS2.3 Support Alternative Certification/Middle School Extension to meet a high-need area

in public school districts

Criteria for Success: Enroll students in Middle School Extension program and Alternative

Certification program

Complete 30 MOAs for public schools/private schools/agencies/Head Start

Eight Alternative Certification and 10 Middle School Extension students

will complete certification

Goal 3: The University shall review institutional processes and procedures to encourage effective and efficient operations (Institutional Goal 5.3).

Responsible Party: College Dean, Department Chairs, and Faculty

Action Steps:

AS3.1 Tenure Review Process

AS3.2 Review and update COE Policy Manual

AS3.3 Review and change undergraduate admissions procedures to teacher education services

Resources: Faculty member to review/revise COE Policy Manual

Calendar: 2007-2008

Criteria for Success: Meet with all new faculty members to review tenure process

New admission to Teacher Education policy approved by CAC

A revised COE Policy Manual

Step 2: Advancing Unit Goals

In addition to the goals selected above, determine one to three additional goals for your unit to accomplish (or make progress toward accomplishing) during this planning cycle. Additional goals may be chosen from the remaining list of 29 Institutional Goals, or may be goals of your own that the college chooses from outside that list.

Goals for the Unit:

Goal 4: The College will continue to implement internationalization experiences for faculty and students.

Responsible Party: College Dean, Department Chairs, and Faculty

Action Steps:

AS4.1 Continue to work with Discover Experiences (Korea, China)

AS4.2 Continue the agreements with the Centro Hueta del Rey Center for Gifted Studies in

Valladoid, Spain

AS4.3 Continue Bregenz Environmental Leadership Program in conjunction with the Office of

Future Questions, in Bregenz, Austria, the Voralberg parliament, the Kentucky institute for International Studies

AS4.4 Continue four-week student teaching experience in Belize

AS4.5 Continue Toyama University Agreement with MSU

AS4.6 Continue 3rd year with United States-Japan Foundation: Japanese Language Program

Teacher (Mrs. Nakamura) of Japanese for a three-year program in the Murray and Calloway Schools

AS4.7 Continue Global Luncheon initiative

Resources: Funds for luncheon speakers

Graduate Assistant for Centro Hueta del Rey Center for Gifted Studies program

Grant Funds

Calendar: 2007-2008

Criteria for Success: Encourage and support faculty who wish to attend

Have 12 students and faculty participate in Discover Experiences

Have four luncheons with at least 20 people in attendance

Ten students to complete the Centro Hueta del Rey Center for Gifted

Studies program

Dr. Wall will contact new Dean at Toyama University

Mrs. Nakamura will continue and the program will be supported by

school districts

Have 15 students participate in Bregenz Environmental Leadership

Program
