Stormy Day – Un día tormentoso

By Lynn Kleiner

Spanish translation by Nilda Carmona Rivera

This song has the same basic rhythm and form as “The Wheels on the Bus” but has a very different melody! The first part is in a minor key (sad or scary sounding), and the second in a major key (happy sounding). The arrangement by Lynn Kleiner can be found in her book, Kids Make Music, Babies Make Music Too,published by Warner Brothers Publications. For additional information, you can also visit her website, www.musicrhapsody.com.

If you do not have the CD, you can sing the song to the tune “Wheels on the Bus” and/or alter the words to go along with the book, City Storm. Give each child a scarf or other prop (crepe paper, etc.) to hide under their drum. Say that you will tell them when to take it out for our surprise! This will be on the last two verses. Teach the song by pointing to the pictures on the song card or in the book. Then ask children how they could make the sound of rain on a drum or other instrument. Have them experiment with ways to make the sound of wind, hail, and thunder. Remember that there is no wrong way! This is a chance to encourage descriptive vocabulary and creativity. (The actions below are only suggested actions.)

Parte 1
