Stonewall Digital Volunteer
Volunteer role purpose / The new Stonewall website launched in August 2015. The site aims to be clear, concise, and easy to navigate and is also optimised for mobile phones and tablet devices. This means that our supporters can access Stonewall information, stories, campaigns, videos and more, whenever they like, wherever they are. This change comes after 12 months of cross-team collaborative work across our London, Scotland and Cymru offices.As Digital Volunteer, you will help us to update ‘behind the scenes’ information which makes our content easy to find via search engines (meta data) and ensuring our various workplace, education and community resources (everything from posters to research) can be easily downloaded.
We will offer you training and support to help you get the most from this opportunity.
Where: / Stonewall Office - Waterloo, London
When: / During office hours (9.30am-5.30pm), Monday to Friday
Suggested commitment: / 1 to 2 days a week for minimum of 6 months
Suggested activities: /
- Adding meta titles and meta descriptions on various pages on the Scotland and Cymru websites, writing short, snappy text which includes key search terms for the content on the page.
- Reviewing our Scotland and Cymru Research and Resource hubs – ensuring intros make sense and the PDFs can be accessed from all locations.
- Reviewing and renaming images in the Photo Library in our content management system.
- Turning our Content Management System Guide into a wiki on the organisational intranet.
- Organising files and images on the organisational intranet.
- Undertaking one-off tasks and content creation on our content management system (CMS) Drupal
Experience & skills /
- Using content management systems (ideally Drupal but also Wordpress or other blogging platforms)
- Creating digital content
- Writing content for websites/ creating web content
- Digital marketing
- Knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO)
- Basic knowledge of MS Word & Excel
- Good standard of written English
- Passionate about LGBT equality
Supervision and training / Stonewall will provide you with relevant training, and support from a member of the team. This role will be supervised by
Reimbursement of expenses / Stonewall will cover reasonable travel expenses and up to £6 for lunch
This volunteer role aims to give guidance on the tasks, skills and commitment which will enable a volunteer to get the most from this opportunity. It is not intended as a legally binding contract, and there is no intention to develop an employment relationship.
