Hazard Identification

If storage and handling is carried out correctly, no specific dangers are known.

Composition

The preparation is based on inorganic salts, sodium chlorite, troclosene sodium dihydrate.

Hazardous ingredients

Troclosene sodium dihydrate:

Content (W/W)5-10%

CAS number:51580-86-0

INDEX number:613-030-01-7

Hazard symbol(s):Xn, N

R-phrase(s):22, 31, 36/37, 50/53

Sodium chlorite:

Content (W/W)15-24%

CAS number:7758-19-2

EC-number:231-836-6

Hazard symbol(s):C, O, T, N

R-phrase(s):8, 22, 24, 32, 34, 50/53

First Aid Measures

General:Remove contaminated clothing and launder before re-use.

If inhaled:If dust has been inhaled, remove to fresh air and seek medical attention.

On skin contact:Wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings if indurated, consult skin specialist.

On contact with eyes:Wash for at least 15 minutes under lukewarm running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water. If vomiting occurs, keep head lower than hips to prevent aspiration. Seek medical attention.

Fire Fighting Measures

Suitable extinguishing media:Water in copious quantities

Unsuitable extinguishing media

for safety reasons:Foam, carbon dioxide, water fog, water spray, organic compounds

Additional information:If large amounts are involved in a fire, the application of water fog or mist could release sufficient chlorine dioxide gas which, if in a confined space, could present an explosion hazard.

Specific hazards:May act as an oxidiser. On exposure to water or water vapour, chlorine dioxide gas is released.

Special protective equipment:Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus

Further information:Is an oxidising agent and can supply oxygen to stimulate or accelerate the combustion of organic or other combustibles. Fight fire from maximum distance. Chlorine dioxide will dissolve harmlessly in copious, flooding amounts of water.

Environmental precautions:Contain contaminated water/fire fighting water. Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Accidental Release

Handling:Protect breathing if large quantities are decanted without local exhaust ventilation

Protection against fire

and explosion:Prevent electrostatic discharge. Keep fire extinguishers handy. Keep sources of ignition well clear.

Methods for cleaning up:Contain any spillage, scoop up or vacuum into a container for disposal. Avoid dusting. If a solution is spilled, take up as much aspossible into a container for disposal. Flush residual with excess water.

Storage:Store in unopened original containers in a cool and dry place. Protect against moisture.

Handling and Storage of Tablets

Handling:Store only in original closed foil packaging. Do NOT partly use tablets. Protect against humidity. Follow dosage instructions precisely. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wear protecting gloves when making up solution. Avoid contact with heat, sparks, open flame and static discharge.

Storage:Store in a cool dry location, well ventilated.

Exposure controls

Ingredients above have workplace control parameters.

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Toxicological Information

Statements on toxicology have been derived from products of a similar structure and composition.

Acute toxicity:

dermal:LD50 rat: >2,000 mg/kg

Inhalation:LC50 rat: >2.7 mg/l (an aerosol was tested)

Oral:LD50 rat: >500 mg/kg

Irritation:Non-irritant for primary skin irritant rat. Derived from products of similar composition, and diluted watery solution.

Moderately irritating (OECD guideline 405) for primary mucous membrane rabbit. Similar effect on eyes.

Sensitisation:Buehler test guinea pig: non-sensitising.

Ecological Information

Statements on ecotoxicology have been derived from the properties of the individual components.

Aquatic toxicity:The hydrolysis products are not acutely harmful to aquatic organisms
