Assistant
You are about to execute your first project week. Read the messages in this window carefully; you will often have multiple responses available. When choosing the best one, consider the anticipated short and long term results of each response. At the completion of each week, you will be redirected to the Reports screen. There are 8 different reports/charts on this screen and each has an Info window which provides a description of how the particular chart will help you understand the project status. So, good luck and happy managing!

I must reinforce how critical it is that you successfully complete this prototype project on schedule and within budget. Our future is dependent on the success of the subsequent Alliance project and we can't allow anything to negatively impact Alliance. Do not hesitate to ask me for help.
Your response:
I look at this project as a growth challenge and will do my best to meet all of the objectives.

I think we made a mistake sending out the meeting notification like we did. More people showed up than the room could hold, some guy who doesn't have any stake in this project asked all kinds of questions and really impacted the meeting; and, worst of all, the key stakeholder in marketing left in disgust before we could get approval. What should we do now?
Your response:
Even though it will probably impact our schedule a couple of days, lets schedule another meeting and this time just invite the key stakeholders.

The VIP parking space is great; thank you for the recognition. Everyone will be very jealous. Your response:

I see you're off to a particularly bad start. You realize that if you don't get your project back on schedule this company stands to lose a lot of money. With this much at stake I have asked Kitty Frost to assist you as co- project manager. She is our best project manager and her track record speaks for itself. I expect you to listen to her input and to act on it accordingly. Now get back to work and get this project back on track.
Your response:
Yes ma'am. Thank you for the assistance.
8
Assistant
She didn't sound very happy.
Kitty Frost
I believe Ms. Smith discussed with you my assignment as the co-project manager for this project. Since you have managed to get this project off to a bad start I am going to have to review your plans with a fine tooth comb to see if I can resurrect this project. I'll be getting back to you soon with my recommendations.
Your response:
I look forward to your recommendations.

David Lewis
I'm having some problems at home right now but I'll try my best not to miss anymore days at work. Your response:
Is there anything I can do to help?
35
David Lewis
I've been missing work because I am caring for a sick family member. If I could do some of my work at home that would really help.
Your response:
That is a difficult situation. Work from home as much as you need.
36
Tuesday Wednesday
Kitty Frost
I just finished reviewing your plans and it looks like your biggest issue is a leadership problem. I recommend that you properly motivate these people before we have a real crisis on our hands. Also I think you could have done a better job in your staff selection.
Your response:
Thanks for the review. I'll get right on it.

We seem to lose a lot of time traveling back and forth to the local coffee shop. If we had our own coffee machine here we could save some valuable time. I would be willing to research how much it would cost us to equip the project with our own coffee maker.
Your response:
Sounds ok to me. Let me know what you find out.
25
B. D. Smith
I just got out of a meeting with the head of marketing and they claim that you have not sent them any status on the project within the past month. They're pretty upset about this. You have got to keep the customer informed of where you are on a regular basis.
Your response:
I'll send a project status report out to them right away.
38
Sally Nicoles
Actually I have already done some research on it and I have found that we can get a pretty good quality coffee maker and initial supplies for about $300.
Your response:
Sounds good to me. Let me know what the actual amount is and I'll make sure you're reimbursed.

I have reviewed your budget, specifically the Reserves category. You set aside money for risk in your planned budget. I'm alarmed because you have already spent 75% of what you had planned! There is an excessive amount in your reserves due to having people on your project and assigned to tasks they can't work on. You are not paying enough attention to your resource plan and task assignments. Make sure resources with the right skills are assigned to the currently active tasks. The currently active tasks are identified in the Gantt chart and at the end of every weekly report. If you have resources on the project with skills you don't need within the next two weeks, release them to the resource pool and hire them again when their task is two weeks from starting.
Your response:
Thank you, I will manage my resources better.
1350
Project Assistant
At the start of each run week, I always tell you if a worker is on the project but has not been assigned to work on a task. You need to correct these situations before running the week. Whenever you get the 'unassigned worker' message, go back to Staffing and look at the Task Assignment Window. Make sure that the assigned task is currently active (not waiting on a predecessor task to finish.) Use your Gantt Chart to see which tasks are active.
Your response:
I understand. Thank you.

O. M. Smith
With the project about half completed, I have scheduled you for a formal status presentation in my boardroom next week.
