The Senior Project .5 credit is a graduation requirement.

  • Project must be community service, job shadowing, or a career-specific project.

*The student must meet with his/her NBCHS advisor as outlined below. Failure to meet with the advisor will result in being placed on the failure list.

*The advisor must sign/date the checklist regardless if any activity has occurred during that time.

*A student may not change advisors without written permission from the HS Principal.

Step 4: PROJECT COMPLETION

*Any student who has not completed 25 hours of service by the deadline date listed below will automatically be required to complete an additional 10 hours of service as remediation (total of 35 hours)

Step 5: DOCUMENT SUBMISSION

*The following documents must be submitted to your NBCHS advisor for initial review two weeks prior to the end of MP1 senior year.

*After your advisor has returned this packet to you, make all necessary corrections/updates and return to advisor for final review and signatures.

*All final documents must be turned in (by you) to the HS Office by the posted deadline.

Senior Project Checklist

  • Submit the completed checklist with all other supporting documents.
  • It is recommended you make a copy for yourself.

Project Validation Certificate or Letter

  • Signed certificate or letter of completion written by project mentor verifying number of hours completed. Total number of hours must be specified in the document.
  • Proof of your work must be submitted (ex. pictures of you working on project, receipts, etc.) at time of presentation.

  • Entries must be hand written in pen.
  • Entries must describe the activity.
  • Each time entry (in and out) must be initialed by the project mentor or person in charge of verifying hours.
  • Completed sheet must be signed by NBCHS advisor.

Senior Project Paper

Format:

  • Title page (includes Project Title, Student Name,

Date Completed, and Advisor’s Name; centered)

  • Length 500+ words; not including title page
  • 12 pt font, Times New Roman
  • 1” margins
  • Double spaced; no extra spacing before/after

paragraphs

Mechanics:

  • Minimal grammar mistakes (spelling, punctuation, usage, verb tense). Grammar mistakes should not interfere with the understanding of the topic.

Content:

Introduction:

  • Location of project and name of supervisor
  • Description of project
  • Duties performed

Body paragraphs on each of the following (and

separate paragraphs for each):

  • Positives of the project
  • Negatives of the project
  • Actions to do differently
  • New skills/information learned

Conclusion:

  • Overall opinion of the experience
  • One thing learned and/or will do differently as a

result of completing the project

Signature:

  • Final draft is signed by NBCHS advisor

Step 6: REQUEST PRESENTATION TYPE

◊I will present using a PowerPoint and need a

computer. I will save my PowerPoint to my H-drive so that it is accessible for the presentation.

◊I will present using a display board and do not need a computer.

Step 7: ORAL PRESENTATION

◊Presentation is 4-6 minutes in length.

Student must speak a minimum of 4 minutes.

◊Presentation must include photos of student participating in the activity. Items used during the project process may also be displayed.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

*All proposed senior projects must involve NEW learning and experiences. Students may not select an activity they have performed in previous years.

*Project Evaluation: Project presentations will be evaluated by a HS Faculty Panel and will be scored using a Pass/Fail system.

  • Remediation and possibly discipline will be required of students who do not meet deadlines or fail a component of the project.
  • Students will be notified and given a deadline in which to complete any necessary remediation.
  • A student will not receive credit for the project until all remediation is completed.
