Table S1Expected primary host for 25 distinct freshwater pearl mussel localities, based on observations of infection rates on young of the year brown trout and Atlantic salmon, except for samples denoted with anasterisk (*) where some older individuals were included.Sampling localities are numbered from one to 25 followed by S or T, for salmon and trout affiliated mussel populations, respectively. Month-Year is time for fish sampling, Gill arches examined is either on the left side of the fish only (L) or on both left and right side of the fish (L+R), N is total number of fish examined, Prev is prevalence (the percentage of fish infected of the total number of fish examined), Abund is abundance (mean number of mussel larvae on all fish examined). Except for one locality (21_T) all trout-mussel localities were non-anadromous (marked with grey colour).

Fig. S1. Probability of number of populations (K) for freshwater pearl mussels sampled at 25 localities, including 11 populations a priori classified as trout-mussel populations and 14 as salmon-mussel populations, analysed at six microsatellite loci, using STRUCTURE, and the Delta K method (figure to the left) by Evanno et al. (2005) and the Ln likelihood value (figure to the right) as described by Pritchard et al. (2000).
