Mr. Carell/Mrs. Nalepa

Grading Criteria

Your final grade will be calculated by the total number of points that you accumulate throughout the marking period, divided by the total number of points possible. You can earn points on:

 Formal Assessments: Tests, Quizzes & Performance Tasks (10-30 points each)

 Informal Assessments: Classwork/Homework Assignments (0 -2 points each)

Materials

The following items must be in your possession every class period:

 iPad  Scientific or Graphing Calculator (required)

Assessments

Quizzes will cover all material studied in class and a study guide will always be provided. Quizzes will usually be announced 2-3 days in advance. Performance tasks and projects will always be announced in advance as well. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE YOUR IPAD/IPHONE CALCULATOR ON QUIZZES.

Classwork/Homework

Classwork and homework assignments are checked for effort and completeness. You can earn 0, 1, or 2 points for any given classwork or homework assignment. Homework is always checked at the beginning of the next day’s class. ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN FOR CREDIT.

Make-up Work

If you miss class for any reason it is your responsibility to download the notes and complete them on your own or with the help of a classmate. It is also your responsibility to check our class calendar for any missed assignments or upcoming assessments. Also, don’t forget to show me any completed assignments that were not checked while you were absent.

Extra Help

I always encourage students to come for extra help if needed. When students are "stuck" on a particular problem, the issue can usually be cleared up in just 5 or 10 minutes. I am available for extra help everyday before and afterschool in Room 424.

Class Policies

 The following items are not allowed to be visible in class – cell phones, headphones, hats, food and drinks.

 Be on time and be prepared for class. Unpreparedness will negatively affect your classwork average. Please read and understand the NPHS Lateness Policy (posted near the door).

 Lastly, all students will follow the Classroom Code of Conduct. The code reads:

In Mr. Carell’s Class I will…

Consequences for Misbehavior

In addition to the NPHS Code of Conduct by which all students are expected to abide, there will be specific consequences for any type of misbehavior in Mr. Carell’s classroom:

1st Offense: Warning

2nd Offense: 10 minute detention @ 2:45 P.M.

3rd Offense: 20 minute detention @ 2:45 P.M. and Parental Contact

4th Offense: Administrative Referral

*A Severe Misbehavior: All of the Above without Warning

NPHS Anti-Bullying Policy

Bullying is a very serious issue in schools today. The New Providence School District has taken a zero-tolerance stance to ensure that all students are safe and secure both inside and outside of school. If I personally see, hear, or have the faintest suspicion that bullying is occurring, you will be immediately reported to Mrs. Zirpoli and/or Mr. Henry and disciplined accordingly.

It is my intention for our time spent in class to be as engaging and productive as possible. With hard work and mutual respect I am confident we will all have a fun and successful year!
