Strong field of candidates for Iowa Pork youth contests

(CLIVE, Iowa) — The Iowa Pork Producers Association will have a strong list of youth candidates competing later this month for the right to represent the industry in 2013.

The Iowa Pork Queen, Pork Princess and Premier Pork Youth Ambassador will be selected from a field of 17 young women and men during the 2013 Iowa Pork Congress Jan. 23 and 24 in Des Moines.

There will be a dozen young women from around Iowa competing for the queen and princess titles. Five Iowa youths will compete for the right to serve as pork ambassador in 2013.

2013 Premier Pork Youth Ambassador Contestants

All of the contestants will be judged on their overall knowledge of the pork industry and Iowa agriculture, interviewing and communications skills, poise and presentation.

The new queen, princess and youth ambassador will represent the Iowa pork industry throughout the year at various promotional and educational events around the state, as well as at out-of-state events.

The queen and youth ambassador each receive a $2,000 college scholarship and the princess is awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Iowa Pork Producers Association.

The 2013 IPPA youth team will be selected and introduced during the 41st annual Iowa Pork Congress Banquet on Jan. 23 at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines.
