Text: The Practice of Statistics

Yates, Moore, & Starnes

It is important that parents stay informed of their child’s progress in this class. To facilitate Parent Contact* I have established and maintain a Web Page*

Here you will find homework assignments posted daily. In addition, you will find many statistical resource links that offer exploration & reinforcement opportunities.

Also, students and parents may contact me at the following e-mail address:

I monitor my messages on an ongoing basis and will respond promptly. You may also leave a voice mail message at: (636) 851- 4649. I will be able to return phone calls during my conference period: 2nd Hour.

Course Description: Students will study the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. It is possible to earn college credit for this course through the AP exam process or through LindenwoodUniversity. This course depends heavily on the availability of technology suitable for the interactive, investigative aspects of data analysis. Therefore, it is required that students will have access to a TI-83 (orTI-84) of their own outside of the classroom. (Note: a TI-89 is NOT recommended.)

Expectations & Resources for Success: Masteringstatistics requires practice. Homework assignments will be given on a daily basis and are due when the bell rings at the beginning of class the next school day.No late work will be accepted without prior approval. However, Extended Time* will be given for any valid reason on the condition that the student contacts me (by e-mail, voice mail, or in person) prior to 7:25 a.m. on the due date. Students are responsible for any work assigned during their excused absence. It’s their responsibility to check my Web Page* or the assignment board to see what work was missed. All make-up work is due on the third day following an excused period of absence. (For example, assignments given on a Monday & Tuesday of an excused absence are due on or before the beginning of class on Friday.) A grade of zero will automatically be given if the work is not turned in when it is due (unless prior arrangements have been made for Extended Time*).If students are present for at least one test review session (but absent on the day of the test) they will be required to take the test on the same day they return (unless prior arrangements have been made).

I will be available for Before & After School Tutoring* from 6:30 am to 7:15 am every day (no need for an appointment) as well as from 2:20 pm to 4:00 pm any day (upon request please).

It is assumed that students do their very best on a daily basis. Extra credit opportunities may rarely occur through out the course, but will notbe made available near the end of grading periods solely for the purpose of adjusting grades. All grading scales, components and weight of semester grades are as stated in the Parent/Student Handbook. Grades will be entered and available for Parent Viewer immediately following every test or quiz and at the end of each grading period. I will be happy to provide a current grade at any time upon request.
