State Senator, District 214-year short and full term

Marko Liias

(Prefers Democratic Party)

Elected Experience: I have served as your State Representative since 2008, and as your State Senator since January. Previously, I was a member of Mukilteo City Council.

Other Professional Experience: I owned and operated a small business for five years, and learned how difficult it can be to survive in a tough economy.

Education: I graduated from Kamiak High School, and I worked my way through Georgetown University with the help of scholarships and student loans.

Community Service: I believe we should all give back to our community. I volunteer on the boards of the Youth Suicide Prevention Program and the Transportation Choices Coalition.

Statement: It has been a privilege to serve you for the past six years. With the retirement of Senator Paull Shin, I was honored to fill the seat of my friend and mentor.

As your Senator, I believe that our highest priority must be providing a quality public education for our children. I will continue championing early learning and smaller class sizes. As the son of immigrants, I would not be where I am today without our great public schools. Every child in Washington deserves equal opportunities—including an affordable college education.

Our community is dependent on a safe, efficient transportation system. That’s why I have worked to invest in more transit service, safe routes for kids to bike and walk to school, and more resources to maintain our roads and bridges.

Over the last six years, I have been an independent, thoughtful voice on the issues that matter to middle class families in our community. I am proud to have earned the support of our local teachers and firefighters, as well as organizations like Planned Parenthood Votes NW and the Sierra Club. I will continue to work for solutions that move our state forward. I ask for your vote

My focus, as your State Senator, will be to improve the quality of life for all, promoting educational excellence, family-wage jobs, good government and fiscal responsibility. I offer leadership, balance, cooperation, and compassion – brought from the perspective of a husband and father with careers in business and education.

My campaign theme expresses my solution for our challenges – Working Together, As a Community, We Will Make a Difference! I will promote policies to make our District an even better place to live, work and play. I am committed to strengthening our education system, advocating innovative ways to support teachers and improve student performance. Our children must be competitive in this technological world, especially in science and technical fields.

Government must fully fund education and live within its means. I support a requirement for a two-thirds majority legislative vote before taxes can be raised.

As my wife and I doorbell and meet people, they express concerns over: the costs and uncertainties of healthcare, good jobs, educational excellence, transportation and public safety. Let’s work together and boldly address these issues. Your Vote is appreciated.
