DIRECTOR OF RESOURCES

Age UK Hertfordshire requires a Director of Resources to provide leadership to the support services department, commercial services team, promote income generation and also develop a new income generation and legacy strategy. You would be joining Age UK Hertfordshire at an exciting time as the organisation has recently been through a Sustainable Transformation Programme (STP), secured a community services contract and is now ready to embark on the next stage of its five year strategy:

successful candidate will be a commensurate and credible finance professional with proven experience of working as a senior manager. The focus of this new position is to provide leadership and support and would be suited to someone who is target driven with excellent financial acumen.

Hours / Full time or part time arrangements will be considered for the role. Post holder will be expected to work reasonable additional hours from time to time to complete tasks associated with the role and also share on call out of hours evenings and weekends (one month in every three)
Wage/ salary / £45,000 FTE pro rata in line with experience
Reports to / Chief Executive
Direct reports / Head of Finance, Executive Assistant, Business Support Coordinator, HR team (5), Trading (3) and volunteers
Benefits/ entitlements / Contributory Pension Scheme and Health Cash Plan after successful completion of six month probationary period
Travel expenses at 40p per mile are paid for the use of your car insured for business purposes in the course of your work. It does not include travel from home to normal place of work.

Responsibilities/ Duties / Tasks

Corporate

  • As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), contribute to the development and delivery of the organisational strategy in particular in relation to finance and resources and their alignment to the Aims and Objectives of AUKH.
  • Exemplify a continuing deep understanding of issues facing executives in the charity sector with a focus on resources and finances and the actions required to address the issues.
  • Build effective working relationships with stakeholders, from Trustees through to auditors to ensure that the organisation obtains maximum value from those relationships/partnerships.

Overall purpose

  • Working actively as a member of the SMT, the Director of Resources will contribute positively to the development of AUKH and its future strategic plans and objectives and devise and deliver on key business plan targets.
  • To recommend, develop and implement a resources strategy that will support the organisations aims of delivering a customer focused and efficient seven day a week operation.
  • To ensure the resource and financial delivery functions meet the organisation’s Business Plan enabling the charity to meet its business objectives in all aspects of resource and financial management including: financial risk; accounting, treasury management, audit, insurance and risk appraisal, developing and implementing a funding strategy and identifying new sources of funding and business planning.
  • To take particular responsibility for the strategic leadership, promotion and line management of the Head of Finance, Business Support Coordinator, Trading Team and Executive Assistant functions.
  • In due course to be the Approved person (AP) for the Trading department.

Strategic and Corporate Responsibilities

  • Provide dynamic leadership achieving high levels of staff motivation, performance, excellence and continuous improvement whilst achieving compliance with legal, regulatory and professional best practice.
  • Develop and implement a resources strategy which develops the organisation in line with its strategies and corporate plans, ensuring that the charity’s growth strategy is financed in the most cost effective way.
  • Assess and evaluate new opportunities for growth, contribute to the formulation and development of strategic financial planning and be actively involved in seeking and delivering new opportunities.
