The State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) will providescholarships to 10 of CPCC’sCorporate and Continuing Education students enrolling for fall and spring of 2016. Awards of $750 will help adults earn industry-based credentials as theygain new job-related skills or upgrade existing skills in select occupations including Salon Natural Hair Care Specialist.

Recipients may use the funds to pay for registration fees, books, certification fees, supplies and other associated educational expenses. Qualifications

  • Be a U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident.
  • Be in one of the following target groups: unemployment insurance claimants, unemployed and underemployed adults, members of the NC National Guard, or military veterans and spouses.

Note: Underemployed will be defined as individuals earning 200 percent below the federal poverty level.

  • Be enrolled in a short-term training program that leads to a state-regulated or industry-recognized credential that is offered through CPCC Corporate and Continuing Education.
  • Not be an employee or family member of an employee of the State Employees’ Credit Union or SECU Foundation.

Note: Scholarships are not need-based, but preference will be given to students with limited or no access to financial aid.

Selection Criteria

Applicants meeting the criteria above will be screened and then scholarship awardees will be selected by the CPCC SECU Scholarship Selection Committee. All decisions of the committee are final.

Application

The application period ends at noon on October 31, 2016. Submissions may be sent electronically or delivered to the program area at theCity View campus and room 111.

Award

Terms of the one-time, non-renewable award will be based on the fiscal year. Awards are paid per course[LT1] and credited to the student’s business office account after the student has completed the course. If the student does not complete the course associated with the award, he will be responsible for all tuition, books, fees and supplies.
