Math Lab hours: MTuWTh 10 am – 7 pm @ RS 162.

Good afternoon! Welcome to Statistics. Each day, be sure to bring the textbook (“First Course in Statistics”,
4th ed. by Sellers/Harbison) and a good calculator. The TI-83/84 graphing calculator is highly recommended.
Writing with a pencil is preferred, but using a pen is also OK. A student with a verifiable disability may be entitled to appropriate academic accommodations. Please contact me before the 1st exam.

Written proof of the prerequisite must be given to Mr. H. by the 2nd class: did you pass (‘C’ or better)
at least “Intermediate Algebra” in college (not high school)? Please bring either

·  a college transcript (unofficial is OK) or

·  a printout from the SCC Assessment Center (it must be SCC’s—not another College’s).

Each student is responsible for knowing which homework problems are assigned in lecture. Credit on any type of work requires your work to be shown on all problems. No credit will be given for HW which is turned in after the Test day corresponding to the chapters the Test covers. Academic plagiarism is forbidden (taking the work or ideas of another person passing them off as your own). Students must move their seats if Mr. Harbison is suspicious of cheating during an exam.

There will be 4 tests, 4 quizzes, 1 writing project 1 cumulative final exam. Since no make-up exams
will be allowed, then one test and one quiz will be forgiven (dropped). The course grade will be based on the following (90% for an A, 80% for a B, 70% for a C, 60% for a D):

Tests (best 3 of 4): 48%

Quizzes (best 3 of 4): 15%

Practice Quizzes 1%

Writing Project: 5%

Homework: 6%

Cumulative Final Exam (Thu. July 19): 25%

100%

Attendance is essential. A student with two or more unexcused absences may be dropped. If you miss class due to an emergency, then give me a written note to make the absence excused. Arriving late or leaving early by more than 10 minutes will count as an absence.

Note these days: Wed., June 20: Last day to drop course w/ no notation

Wednesday, July 4: Holiday (Independence day)

Friday, July 6: Last day to drop course “with W”

This class requires at least 24 hours/week outside of class for homework. Do you have that much time
in your schedule? This stuff goes by very very very quickly. Take advantage of the resources available to you.
(For example, SCC counselors @ 558-2204 can find food shelter for students.). Good luck!
