The Use of ALEKS in Math 111: Spring 2010

All Math 111 students will purchase and use ALEKS for the algebra and trigonometry review portion of Math 111. You may work in ALEKS from Thursday, January 14 – Wednesday, February 17, 2010

The use of ALEKS will begin with the initial assessment on Thursday,January 14.

  1. All Math 111 students should report to Manchester 16 between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm to begin their initial assessment in ALEKS.
  2. A handout with directions and a course code will be given to all students in their Math 111 class.
  3. Students should report to Manchester 16 by 4:00 pm in case the room is full and they need to wait for an available space.
  4. Students should allow at least 2 hours to complete the initial assessment.
  5. Students may not begin the initial assessment after 6:00 pm.

Once the initial assessment has been completed, all Math 111 students will be able to log in at any time, from any computer with internet access and work in ALEKS to improve algebra and trigonometry skills. All Math 111 students who have not completed ALEKS with 100% and taken the “Goal Completion Assessment” will complete a final comprehensive assessment on Thursday, February 18 between 10am and 8pm.

All Math 111 students will have 2 options available to them for the use of ALEKS in Math 111.

Option 1 : Use ALEKS completely on your own to review algebra and trigonometry skills

Your purchase of the ALEKS code entitles you to login and use ALEKS on your own at any timefrom any computer with internet access. You may login as often as you wish and work for as long as you wish in order to improve your algebra and trigonometry skills. Each time you logout you will be given a progress assessment score by ALEKS. Your grade on the “Goal Completion Assessment” or the final comprehensive assessment in ALEKS will count as approximately 10% of your grade in Math 111.

Option 2 : Register for Math 105L to receive 1 hour credit (Pass/Fail) for your work in ALEKS

Your purchase of the ALEKS code entitles you to login and use ALEKS on your own at any timefrom any computer with internet access. You may login as often as you wish and work for as long as you wish to improve your algebra and trigonometry skills. Each time you logout you will be given a progress assessment score by ALEKS. To receive 1 hour credit (Pass/Fail) as Math 105L for your work in ALEKS you must also meet the following requirements:

  1. Register for Math 105L through your Math 111 professor by Friday, January 15, 2010.
  2. Attend at least 2 hours per week of monitored ALEKS study sessions. These will be offered each week, Sunday – Thursday evenings from 7pm – 9pm in Manchester 16.
  3. Complete ALEKS to 100% and take the “Goal Completion Assessment” or complete the final comprehensive assessment in ALEKS as outlined above for all students. This will be offered Thursday, February 18 from 10am - 8pm in Manchester 16.
  4. Score at least 80% on the final comprehensive assessment or the “Goal Completion Assessment”.
  5. Your grade on the “Goal Completion Assessment” or the final comprehensive assessment in ALEKS will count as approximately 10% of your grade in Math 111.
