STARTING THE SEASON SUCCESSFULLY

  1. To officiate high school sports you must register or sign-up at four websites, 1) Third District Officials Association, 2) Idaho High School Activities Association, 3) Arbiter, and 5) RefPay.

2.  Register with the Association by July 31st at www.Idahoofficials.com. Annual fees are Paid online -no cash, checks, or other methods are accepted.

  1. Register with Idaho High School Association (IHSAA), which is a two step process, 1) complete the registration form located at: https://www.arbitersports.com/front/100999/Site/PageContent/Home, and 2) follow up on subsequent email from IHSAA to pay state registration fee (credit or debit only).
  1. Register with Arbiter at https://www.arbitersports.com/front/100999/Site/PageContent/Home Arbiter is a website where game assignments are posted. You must be signed up with Arbiter to receive assignments.
  1. Register with RefPay at http://www.refpay.com/ This website is a payment mechanism used by many schools to pay officials for contests worked.
  1. Eligibility to work Oregon contests occurs automatically via your registration with this Association. Through an agreement with OSAA, information on Arbiter is used to complete their registration requirements. Membership also enables access to the “Oregon Central Hub” on Arbiter. The hub has information which aide’s officials in their skill development.
  1. Complete a Background Check Form at http://www.idahoofficials.com/forms/background-check-form/

a) Failure to provide information on the form regarding previous arrests, charges, or convictions (both misdemeanor and felony) can void membership in the Association

b) Click on the hyperlink above, then click on the form link, then complete the form by tabbing through the document.

c) Return the form to the director at the state clinic

d) If you must print the form and fill-in the blanks long-hand, write legibly. Poor handwriting will delay the check and prevent you from receiving assignments.

7. Read the Code of Ethics in NFHS rule book, and Sports Official Handbook

8.  Meet IHSAA varsity certification requirements as outlined on pg. 10 of the Sports Official Handbook;

a) Register before the final filing date

b) Attend a State Rules Clinic

c) Attend at least two meetings

d) Receive a score of 80 or better in the previous year, and current year on Part II test

e) Receive a recommendation from the commissioner

f) Attend a qualifying clinic every three years

g) Complete the NFHS Online Concussion Course

9.  Meet requirements set by sport director for post season selection, including, but not limited to:

a) Receive a minimum test score

b) Attend a certain number of meetings

c) Complete specific training requirements

d) Work a minimum number of contests to be eligible for state contest

10.  Use the block features of Arbiter to manage your calendar and accept game assignment. Expect the loss of assignments if you fail to do so. Keep your commissioner happy. ☺

11.  If you are the driver or crew chief, contact crew members ahead of time to arrange rides and schedule pre-game.

12.  As a varsity level official, you are eligible to participate in post season contests and the ranking process. Be responsible and participate in the balloting.
