Pöppelmann extends its standard range for pharmaceuticals and food industries
Versatile application: standardized tablet tubes
Lohne/Germany, September 2009. – Plastic tubes in three sizes are the latest addition to the standard product range of the FAMAC Division of Pöppelmann GmbH & Co. KG, Lohne/Germany, for applications in the pharmaceuticals and food industries. These tubes are already being used by the firm of Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH, Baden-Baden, as packaging units for 50, 100 and 250 tablets. Consisting of plastic tubes and stoppers, these packagings are distinguished by their outstanding tightness of seal, even after repeated opening and closing. The flexible spring elements of the stoppers prevent damage to the contents during transport and handling. The injection moulding process used for the production of the stoppers necessitates the use of complex demoulding technology to ensure their reliable removal from the mould without damaging the flexible spring elements.
Compared with individually designed, customized packagings, these standardized tablet tubes offer a host of advantages:
- Their practical, purpose-oriented design enables them to meet all packaging system requirements.
- The development costs and the costs of designing and producing the expensive injection moulds can be spread over large production quantities.
- The injection moulding of the tubes and stoppers under clean room conditions in a polypropylene approved for pharmaceuticals and food packaging ensures, in conjunction with continuous process monitoring, a consistently high quality of product.
- If required, the tablet tubes can be supplied in special materials at short notice; the customer can also print or label the tubes for his own specific application.
The tablet tubes are the latest addition to FAMAC's new standard range for the pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical and food industries. The purpose of this range, which Pöppelmann's FAMAC Division is extending continuously, is to replace the hitherto customary – and costly – practice of developing products for individual applications by the production of low-cost, highly perfected standard products for a relatively large circle of users.
As a successful family-owned company with over 1,300 employees, 4 production sites and more than 400 injection moulding machines, thermoforming machines and extrusion lines, Pöppelmann is today one of the leading companies in the plastics processing industry.
Pöppelmann's FAMAC® Division develops and manufactures user-specific functional parts, component assemblies and packagings for the pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical and food industries.

The standard range comprises approx. 3,000 different types and/or sizes of caps and plugs for the protection of tapped and drilled holes in machine components and assemblies against damage and contamination during processing (e.g. painting), transport and storage.
Pöppelmann's K-TECH® Division develops and produces high-precision injection moulded engineering parts for the automotive and electrical industries and for the mechanical and apparatus engineering industries.
Pöppelmann's TEKU® Division develops and produces plastic plant pots and growing systems for commercial horticulturalists and the retail trade.
