ETA Safety Metrics (Ron)

The May 2016 Safety Metrics presentation slides were distributed to the committee by email earlier in the week.They are also available on the ETA Safety website:

Safety Alerts and Lessons Learned (Ron)

All Safety Alerts are found on the ETA Safety webpage: The following were issued in April and May:

  • Lessons Learned- Over Heating Oil Bath
  • Lessons Learned- Selection of Proper Laboratory Equipment
  • Safety Alert- Lab Area Refrigerator Requirements
  • Safety Alert- Peroxide Former Chemical Requirements

Self-Assessment Program Update (Ron)

  • The Activity Lead self-assessment project is completed and ready for submittal.
  • We will start the electrical equipment self-assessment soon. This is our third and final self-assessment for 2016.

Training (Ron)

  • LBL0101 is a new course that is now being required for all new hires. It combines 3 existing courses into one and will reduce the total amount of time needed to complete. (EHS0010, EHS0135, and BLI0919).

Old Business (All)

  • The annual revision of the ETA Integrated Safety Management Plan has been completed.
  • The inspection of ETA electrical equipment racks has been completed. Several issues were identified and have been addressed.

New Business (All)

  • The recent self-assessment of Activity Leads revealed that we need awareness training for all Activity Leads and Lab Safety Leads. Ron will follow-up with EHS to coordinate efforts.
  • An overview was given regarding the recent odor incident in 70-173. Photos of findings were presented.
  • The Building 70 hallway storage cabinets have been getting cleaned out of old electrical equipment. Photos of some items found were presented.
  • An update was given regarding the recent cleanout of non-returnable and hard-to-return gas cylinders from the lab areas. Photos were presented.
  • Level 3 Work Activities are currently going through their annual renewals. There are 25 renewals pending in the EHS collaboration stage.
