04.01PURPOSE

It will be policy, that the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department members will display a positive and professional image when operating at all standbys, displays, parades, trainings and when ever functioning in the eyes of the public.

One important factor in a professional image is consistency of the crew being displayed. Officer or designated OIC of detail will determine level of consistency, i.e. winter display, types if any jackets worn. Chief officer or OIC of event may alter uniform if he or she deems necessary.

04.02POLICY

1.DRESS UNIFORM STANDARDS

A.FIREFIGHTER UNIFORM POLICY; CLASS "A"

1.Navy blue pants-Neatly pressed with no additional pockets or snaps, other than two hand pockets already provided, and 2 rear pockets.

Note: Dickies are acceptable but DO NOT match uniform shirt as well as other navy blue pants once washed.

2.Black 1 1/2" leather belt. Smooth with no decorative buckles. Silver buckle is required

3.Navy bluepleated short sleeve uniform shirt. Patches will consist of company patch on right sleeve sewn 1" below seam. Left sleeve will consist of water emergency team patch sewn 1" below seam.

4.Tee shirt under uniform shirt will consist of white or navy blue tee shirt, the only acceptable logos, or symbols or pictures on tee shirt will be that of the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department, no others will be accepted.

5.Badge will consist of standard company badge, silver with firefighter in arch. Badge will be worn on left chest above pocket.

6.Collar brass will consist of round silver & red fire department pins. Pins will be worn on both collars.

7.Name tag will be silver, placed on right chest. Nametag will have first initial, last name on tag. No decorative symbols of any type.

8.Black tie, no bow ties. If tiepins are worn they will be worn by all firefighters on apparatus or in-group. Every firefighter will wear same type and color tiepin if they are to be worn.

9.Shoes will be black polished, low cut if possible. They will be laced or zippered.

10.Blue or black socks will be worn with shoes.

11.No hats, of any type will be worn.

B.OFFICER UNIFORM POLICY; CLASS "A"

1.Navy blue pants-neatly pressed with no additional pockets or snaps, other than two hand pockets and rear pockets already provided. If issued or wearing "Class A Jacket", pants color should match jacket.

2.Black 1 1/2" leather belt. Smooth with no decorative buckles. Silver buckle is required.

3.All chiefs will wear white pleated short sleeve uniform shirts. Patches will consist of company patch on right sleeve sewn 1" below seam. Left sleeve will consist of water emergency team patch, sewn 1" below seam. Long sleeve shirts may be utilized if OIC of event warrants.

Captains and lieutenants will wear white short sleeve pleated uniform shirts. Patches will be in same formation as for firefighters and chiefs.

4.Tee shirt under uniform shirt will consist of white tee shirt with no types of markings, pictures or symbols, and it is recommended that a tee shirt be worn. All personnel wearing navy blue shirts have the choice of wearing white or navy blue tee shirts. The only acceptable logos, symbols, or pictures on tee shirt will be that of the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department. No others will be accepted.

5.Badge will consist of standard company badge, gold for chiefs with appropriate markings. Captains and Lieutenants will wear silver badges with appropriate markings. Badge for all officers will be worn on left chest above pocket.

6.Designation of officers will be that of trumpets. Following number of trumpets will designate officers:

7.Collar brass for officers will consist of trumpets representing their rank. Gold trumpets will represent chiefs; silver will represent captains and lieutenants. Collar insignias will be worn on both collars. Bell of trumpet will point to tip of collar.

8.Nametag for chiefs will be gold placed on right chest above pocket. Nametag for captains and lieutenants will be silver, also worn on right chest. Nametag will have first initial, last name on tag. No decorative symbols of any type.

9.Tie will be black with no bow ties. If tiepins are worn, they will be worn by all firefighters on apparatus or in-group. Every firefighter will wear same type and color tiepin.

10.Blue or black socks will be worn with shoes.

11.Shoes will be black polished, low cut if possible. They will be laced or zippered.

12.No hats of any type will be worn.

13.Officer Class A Jacket will be Navy Blue (Department Issued)

. a.Official department patch will be on both sleeves of jackets sewn 1" below the seam. Water Emergency Team patch will not be displayed on Class "A" jacket.

b. Sleeve strips will consist of the following: (Both Sleeves)

1. Chief 5 Strips Gold

2. Deputy Chief4 Strips Gold

3. Assistant Chief3 Strips Gold

4. Captain2 Strips Gold

5.Lieutenants1 Strip Gold

c. Jacket buttons will be following color:

1.Chief Gold

Note: If fire chief determines he or she wishes other ancillary staff in jackets, they will be designated in the following fashion.

C.FIREFIGHTER AND OFFICER WINTER UNIFORM POLICY

1.The winter or cold weather uniform of the firefighters will consist of the same as the standard uniform.

2.Jackets will be at the discretion of the chief or highest line officer.

3.All firefighters should attempt to wear the same jackets, if they are worn.

D.OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTERS CLASS "B" UNIFORM POLICY

1.Navy blue pants-neatly pressed with no additional pockets or snaps, other than two hand pockets already provided, and two rear pockets.

2.Black 1 1/2" leather belt. Smooth with no decorative buckles. Silver buckle required.

3.Navy blue Columbia No. 1 Fire Department tee shirts. The tee shirt will have only logos of Columbia No. 1 Fire Department. Since there is a variety of tee shirts available, the highest-ranking line officer will have final decision on which shirt is to be worn.

4.Shoes will be black polished, low cut if possible, unless detail warrants wearing boots which will also be black and polished. They will be laced or zippered.

5.Blue or black socks will be worn with the shoes.

6.Hats with a class B uniform will be at the discretion of the chief and officer in charge of the detail. If they are to be worn, they will be Columbia No. 1 Fire Department hats and all members shall wear them.

04.03RESPONSIBILITY

It will be the responsibility of all firefighters and officers to display a positive and professional image. When in uniforms, Class "A" or Class "B", all firefighters and officers will be clean-cut and shaved. High priorities will be taken with personal hygiene. All uniforms will be washed and properly pressed with creases.

It is the observed conduct of each individual member that combines to from the image of the department. This observed conduct has the potential to destroy the professional image of the department and organization as a whole.
