Salisbury, Md. (Tuesday, June 23, 2015) — As part of its commitment to enrich the lives of children in the community, Perdue Farms, through the Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Boys and Girls Club of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County in Harrisonburg, Va. The club relies on local community support to help fund scholarships for families who otherwise are unable to pay membership dues for their children.
“We’re grateful for the continued support of Perdue and the Foundation through this generous grant for the Boys and Girls Club,” said Bill Carter, executive director of the club. “The financial support will fund scholarships for 10 children and will provide them healthy snacks and meals, a wellness program, and tutoring for improved school performance.”
“For nearly 20 years, the Boys and Girls Club has been as a strong educational and community partner for the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County,” said Kenny Lambert, director of Perdue’s operation in Bridgewater. “At Perdue, we are committed to making a difference in the community through partnerships like this, and proud to continue our support so that area children, including those of some our own associates, have the ability to learn and grow in a safe environment.”
Since 2011, Perdue has provided $30,000 in funding support for the Boys and Girls Club’s programs.
More than 1,500 children annually benefit from the services of the Boys and Girls Club and the support of the community and private sector organizations. “We couldn’t provide the life-enhancing programs that we offer without the support of the community and partners like Perdue,” said Carter. “The power of the Boys and Girls Club is consistency. Every day, we give children ages 5 to 18 a safe place to learn and with caring adult professionals, and the programs and experiences to help them realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.”
