Northamptonshire Women’s Football League

During season 2009-10, the NWFL achieved Charter Standard League Status, one of the first 10 Women’s leagues in the Country to achieve the award. At the end of the season, we had achieved the 100% standard across all teams which is fantastic so a big congratulations to all involved.

As part of this status, all clubs have signed up to the Respect programme in which we encourage Referees to take control of the game, Captains to manage their teams and all players to shake hands prior to and after the games. It has been pleasing to hear that clubs wish to take a lead on this and we hope that standards continue to improve over the season.

Additionally, this season, events will be run for the women’s teams to assist with coach education and training, to assist in raising standards and developing teams. Details of these events will be found on the league website throughout the season.

We welcome new teams into the league this season from Peterborough, newly established teams and youth teams having left the MDH Midshires Girls league and hope they have an enjoyable season with us. It will be my objective to bring these teams up to Charter Standard Status if they are not so already.

We also have an U17 division for the first time in the league’s history and hope that this will be a helpful stepping stone for clubs leaving the girls league and coming up into adult football.

All Charter Standard League documentation can be found on the website and can I please remind clubs to be aware of these documents and follow the guidelines set out.

Prior to the start of the season, the NFA runs a Charter Standard 11 V 11 festival and this has provided a good warm up to the season in recent years, promoting the benefits of Charter Standard and being run in the ethos of Fair Play. I look forward to welcoming teams along on the day.

Also a first for this season is the introduction of a County League Rep team which will play fixtures with Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. All teams will be invited to nominate players for this and we hope that this will be an exciting opportunity for those involved.
