DR. STAMATOULA PANAGAKOU • SHORT BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Dr. Stamatoula Panagakou teaches in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cyprus. She has previously taught at the Universities of York, Durham, Newcastle and Manchester. She holds a BA in Political Science and Public Administration (University of Athens, Greece), an MA in Political Philosophy and a DPhil in Politics (University of York, UK).Dr. Panagakou is an Honorary Visiting Fellow in the Department of Politics (University of York, UK) and an Associate Member of the Centre for the History of Philosophy, a British Inter-University Network of Philosophers in York, Leeds, and Sheffield. She is a Founding Member and Co-Chair (1999-2008) of the British Idealism Specialist Group of the Political Studies Association (PSA) of the United Kingdom.

Dr. Panagakou has been awarded fellowships from theNATO Science Fellowships Programme, the Lilian Voudouri Foundation, and the Greek State Scholarships Foundation. Her research interests include British Idealism, the FrankfurtSchool, and different aspects of the history of political thought. She has published articles and book reviews in The British Journal of Politics & International Relations, Collingwood and British Idealism Studies,British Journal for the History of Philosophy, European Journal of Political Theory, Journal of Moral Philosophy, Political Studies Review, andBradley Studies. She has co-edited (with James Connelly) a collection of essays on British Idealism, entitled Anglo-American Idealism: Thinkers and Ideas (Oxford: Peter Lang, 2010). The book was presented by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Constantinos Christofides, at the world book launch event in Cyprus, 6th April 2011. Dr. Panagakou is a leading scholar in British Idealism, especially in the philosophy of Bernard Bosanquet. She has been an invited speaker in Italy, Cyprus, England, and Wales. She is currently writing a book on the philosophy of Herbert Marcuse.
