Barking Folk Festival

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June 2018

11am to 9.30pm

Abbey Green, Abbey Road, Barking and Barking Town Square (11am to 4pm)

Abbey Ruins, Abbey Road, IG11 7AP (4pm to 9.30pm, gazebos and small units only)

Expected numbers: 3,000 – 5,000 per day

Details:Two-day folk family festival in its’ fourth year which is made up of World and English folk music, dance, storytelling, workshops and attractions. A professional folk programme will conclude the event in the Abbey Ruins from 4pm to 9.30pm, this area has a 2,500-person capacity. Sunday’s programme in the Abbey Ruins is dedicated to women and ‘the art of protest’ to mark the 100th anniversary of women winning the vote.

Steam and Cider Fair

Saturday 30 June 2018

11am to 6pm

Old Dagenham Park, Ballards Road, Dagenham, RM10 9SA

Expected numbers:5,000 - 7,000

Details:The popular event is back for itsfourth year and will have traditional entertainment and attractions to reflect the borough’s rural and industrial heritage. The event will include steam engines, classic cars and vehicles, machinery, family entertainment, music, dance, arena acts, workshops and rides.

One Borough Community Day

Saturday 21 July 2018

11am to 9pm

Parsloes Park, Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham, RM9 5RL

Expected numbers: 6,000 - 8,000

Details:One Borough Community Day is one of the key events in our events programme back for a third year. The event will include something for everyone with family entertainment, music, dance, craft, arena acts, workshops, community and Council exhibits and rides and attractions. This year is themed ‘Heroines of the Stage’ to mark the 100th anniversary of women winning the vote. The stage programme will be dedicated to the best of musical theatre.

Roundhouse Music Festival

Monday 27 August 2018

12pm to 9pm

Central Park, Rainham Road North/Wood Lane, Dagenham, RM10 7EJ

Expected numbers:5,000 – 7,000

Details:The concert celebrates the rich musical history of the borough and the Roundhouse pub which has played host to some of the world’s most famous rock bands. Established in 1969 as the Village Blues Club, it was East London’s premier rock venue. The event is back by popular demand and includes a concert from 60s and 70s tribute rock acts, battle of bands finals and family fun, rides and attractions in the day.

N.B: Now That’s a Festival will take place on Friday 24 August (evening), Saturday 25August and Sunday 26 August in Central Park. This event is run by an external promoter, please specify in the notes section if you wish to receive an application form for this event and remain on site for 3/4 days. Please note pitch prices may be different for each event.

Youth Parade

Sunday 16 September 2018

2pm to 5pm

Starts at Barking Park

Event at Abbey Green, Broadway, Barking, IG11 7AP

Expected numbers: 2,000

Details: The Youth Parade is in its fifth year and celebrates the positive contribution made by young people from the borough including police cadets, sports clubs and schools. The parade consists of about 1,000 young people and their families. The parade starting in Barking Park concludes on Abbey Green where there is an open family event for all to enjoy with a stage, rides and workshops.

Paperwork required with form:

  1. Risk assessment (see template if you wish to use)
  2. Method statement
  3. Public liability insurance (£5 million)
  4. Accurate price list (if selling items or running paid activities)

Important Information

  • Please read the paperwork carefully and ensure you note which events/s you wish to attend. Please submit all requested documentation at the time of applying.
  • Deadline for applications is Monday 2 April.
  • The Council reserve the right to reject application if not in keeping with the event or based on too many similar stalls applying to each event.
  • Stalls operating in an unsafe manner or selling dangerous or counterfeit goods will be closed down by the Council unless actions are rectified, or the goods withdrawn from sale. No weapons or replica weapons may be sold including all types of knives.
  • Please note only traders may conduct face painting with all the correct insurance and paperwork. Voluntary groups would need to pay for their stand if they wish to undertake this activity either charged or free.
  • Please state if you require power or furniture. If you are supplying your own power, ONLY diesel generators are allowed on site. If generators are to be used it must have a valid safety certificate which may be inspected at the event and a fully qualified competent, experienced person must carry out the installation.
  • ALL GAZEBOS/MARQUEES MUST BE sufficiently pegged into the ground. For Barking Folk Festival and the Youth Parade PLEASE NOTE GAZEBOS MUST NOT BE PEGGED IN SO ADEQUATE WEIGHTING is required!
  • Please note weights must weigh a minimum of 25kg per leg and you must have sufficient weights for Barking Folk Festival and Youth Parade.
  • Stallholders will be emailed in April to confirm their attendance. This correspondence will include site rules. Nearer to the event you will be posted your vehicle passes if required.
  • For traders, full payment must be received before the event. An official invoice will be sent out. This year we cannot accept cash at the event.
  • Council applications MUST supply their cost code if hiring furniture otherwise your application will not be accepted.
  • Please arrive on site at the times stated in your confirmation letter.
  • Please note the close time for exhibiting areas at each event, we strongly discourage stalls to close before this time unless in exceptional circumstances. No vehicle movement will be allowed before the time stated in our site rules.
  • All rubbish must be taken away; however, bins will be located near the catering areas.
  • All cancellations need to be submitted four weeks prior to the event. If we are notified after this then you will not receive a refund.
  • If you are deemed to not complying to the site rules, then you will not be asked to come to any future events and may lose any money you have already paid.
