ACCOUNTS AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

1. Introduction

The European United Left/Nordic Green Left Group (GUE/NGL) in the European Parliament brings together MEPs from a range of European left and progressive parties - ecological, socialist, communist, independent and others. In virtually all policy areas, the Group argues against the mainstream neoliberal prescriptions for the EU and is focussed on presenting progressive policy alternatives. Staff should be comfortable in this environment.

The Group is seeking to recruit an accountsand administrative assistant to strengthen the team responsible for the Group's accounts and to assist central services with administrative tasks when needed.

The successful candidate is likely to have a bookkeeping/accounting qualification and/or comparable professional experience, including in or close to the EU institutions.

2. Duties

The successful candidate will work in a team responsible for the Group's accounts and may be deployed in central services for administrative tasks.

Her/his duties shall include:

In accordance with the provisions of the group's internal financial regulation and implementing rules and the EP Bureau's rules on budget line 400:
• prepare expenditure approvals and credit transfers after detailed checking of the justifying documents;
• check bank statements and number the accounting documents;
• file the accounting and budgetary documents securely;
• prepare the administrative/accounting letters to suppliers and the financial authorities;
• prepare documentation for the collection of VAT from the competent authorities:
• assist the ex-ante inspector and the authorising officer in their tasks;

• assist in the preparation of the Group's calls for tenders; and
• support central services in administrative tasks.

3. Profile and Skills

The appointee will be a good team worker, readily able to give and take help, support and advice from staff colleagues, with a motivation to learn in a changing environment. S/He will be adaptable with a flexible attitude and comfortable in a multinational environment with a variable workflow; the appointee will have a capacity for analysis and understanding, together with rigor and confidentiality.

Mother-tongue proficiency in an official EU language and a satisfactory knowledge of a second is essential; for operational reasons, a good knowledge of EN and/or FR is highly desirable and other languages will be taken into account.

Training/experience in accounting will be a distinct advantage.

The candidate should have 3 years full-time professional experience in the field.

A good knowledge of the institutional structure of the EU and of its activities is desirable.

4. Deadline and application procedure

It is intended to fill this vacancy after February 2017. The successful candidate will be recruited as Contract agent in the GF III or IV grade depending on qualifications and experience. The contract would be full time for one year initially, renewable until the end of the current legislature (December 2019).
