NEW HAMPSHIRE LEGAL ASSISTANCE
New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA), a statewide civil legal aid organization that serves low-income and elderly New Hampshire residents, seeks a dynamic individual to serve as a paralegal for our Senior Law Project. This is a part-time (20 hours) position in Manchester, NH.
The paralegal will be responsible for gathering information to assist NHLA in our legal representation of low-income elderly women in the greater Manchester area. The paralegal will also screen low-income elderly women in the greater Manchester area for public benefits for which they are eligible and help them access these benefits. These efforts will help low-income elderly women to remain independent and safe in their homes. The paralegal will work under the direction of NHLA’s Litigation Director and its Senior Law Project Director.
Duties:
- Interview seniors who wish to remain in their homes about their individual needs and about the services they have applied for/are receiving.
- Interview service providers about their knowledge of the needs of low income seniors in the greater Manchester area.
- Organize and analyze the information gathered at interviews.
- Organize and analyze other data related to the provision of home and community based services.
- Provide case support to Litigation Director and other NHLA staff.
- Conduct benefit screenings using online tool.
- Conduct outreach to and develop collaborative relationships with elder service providers in the greater Manchester area.
- Develop a working knowledge of community needs, resources, and goals regarding home and community based services.
- Participate in in-house training programs as required.
- Other reasonable requests, as the needs of the program may require.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or 2-4 years equivalent experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated commitment to serving vulnerable populations
- Willingness to commit her/himself to the program for a minimum of one year.
