CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGE:

My Dear Brothers in Christ,

In his Lenten message, Pope Francis has asked that “the season of Lent be lived more intensely as a privileged moment to celebrate and experience God’s mercy”. Our Holy Father is asking that by an attentive listening to the Word of God, we contemplate the importance of prayerfully listening to God’s Word each day of our lives. For it is in this prayerful listening and experiencing the Word of God that God’s covenant with each of us is made clear.

In the Sacred Scripture, the covenant between God and his people Israel reveals God’s mercy which is ever ready to treat his people with deep tenderness and compassion, especially at those tragic moments in our lives. The Sacred Scripture is a true love story, in which God plays the role of the betrayed father and husband, while Israel plays the unfaithful child and bride. These domestic images show to what extent God wishes to bind himself to his people.

This love story culminates in the incarnation of God’s Son. In Christ, the Father pours forth his boundless mercy even to making him mercy incarnate. As a man, Jesus of Nazareth is a true son of Israel; he embodies that perfect understanding that the Lord our God is one Lord; and we are called to love the Lord our God with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our might.

As true disciples, informed by the Sacred Scripture, our hearts are transformed by God’s mercy through Jesus Christ. This transformation enables us, through the experience of a faithful love, to become merciful in turn. The experience of God’s mercy inspires each of us to love our neighbor and to devote ourselves to what the Church’s tradition calls the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. These works remind us that faith finds expression in concrete everyday actions meant to help our neighbors in body and spirit: by feeding, visiting, comforting and instructing them.

For all of us, the season of Lent is a time to overcome our spiritual complacency by listening to God’s Word and by practicing the works of mercy. In the corporal works of mercy we touch the flesh of Christ in our brothers and sisters who need to be fed, clothed, sheltered, visited; in the spiritual works of mercy – counsel, instruction, forgiveness, admonishment and prayer – we touch more directly our own sinfulness. Let us not waste the remainder of this season of Lent. Let us embrace it as a favorable a time for conversion through the sacred word of god and his remarkable mercy manifest by our living as true disciples of Jesus Christ.

Yours in Christ

Fr. Mick

INSURANCE NEWS:

Ways to Pay for Whole Life

We live in a world of options and we are constantly bombarded by choices. Some of these make our lives more complicated, but many of these choices are created with our satisfaction in mind.

At the Knights of Columbus, every product we offer has been designed solely for the benefit of our members and their families. When I present an option to you, it’s because a team of experts has discussed it at length to be certain it serves your best interest.

We have a few options on how you can provide and pay for the whole life coverage that your family needs. Many whole life policies call for premiums to be paid for your entire life or to age 100. But we also offer permanent life coverage with guaranteed cash values (and the potential to earn dividends, which are not guaranteed) through policies that offer a limited period of premium payments.

First, we offer “10 Pay Life” and “20 Pay Life.” Consider paying premiums for 10 or 20 years, and never having to pay for the coverage again. The plan is “paid up” and no more premiums are due. The plan stays in force, the death benefit remains intact and the guaranteed cash value continues to grow.

A plan with similar benefits is “Life Paid Up at 65.” The difference over 10 or 20 Pay Life plans is that this permanent product requires you to pay premiums until age 65. Then, premiums stop (just in time for retirement), but the plan remains in force.

Finally, the ultimate in limited pay is our Single Premium Life product. Imagine buying life insurance — permanent life insurance — and only paying one single premium? It’s possible.

To learn more about these products, our long-term care insurance, disability income or retirement products, please call me today.
