Job purpose
To carry out research under the specified research project in accordance with the overall goals and in consultation with the academic supervisor
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time /
1.  / To develop and carry out research projects / 70
2.  / To maintain data records, prepare progress reports and draft manuscripts concerning the results of the research project; to assist with organisation of project meetings, etc / 10

4.  / Postdoctoral Research Fellows are expected to contribute up to 4 hours per week to teaching or other tasks e.g. supervision of junior research staff during the academic year / 10

Close collaboration with Dr S Mahajan, other members of the research group, and with internal and external collaborators to for progressing research and ensuring delivery of targets.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, knowledge and experience:
PhD in Bio-Imaging or Biomedical Microscopy or Biophotonics or Biological Sciences or a related field
Wide knowledge of microscopy and experience with laser scanning confocal imaging
Experience with live cell imaging
Extensive experience in tissue culture
Experience of preparation of biological specimens (cells, tissue) for imaging
Experience with Image processing and analysis, such as using ImageJ
Some familiarity with Matlab and Matlab based programs for controlling microscopes, laser scanning
Enthusiasm to use and/or familiarity with new label-free microscopy techniques for imaging such as those being developed in the group. Should have an enthusiasm for working at the interface of physics (microscopy/imaging) and biology.
