Pastor’s Page June 2017

“Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.”

James 5:7-8

My dear friends at St. Paul’s,

Blessings to you this summer. It seems like patience is a good thing to speak of, as the weather just can’t seem to make up its mind for summer. It will be here soon enough. As will Our Lord! As Scripture tells us, the exact time of Christ’s return is known only by the Father.

So we are told to be patient. That can be very hard to do at times. Even so, today, tomorrow, this week, and this month is a good time to strengthen our hearts. We strengthen our hearts through prayer, studying Holy Scripture, and by coming to church to worship our Lord! Thanks be to God for this church and this community of believers!!

+

June is going to be a very good month at St. Paul’s. We start with Pentecost and Confirmation on Sunday June 4th. Clara Myers and Ian McGhee will be confirmed—their formal Sunday School and Confirmation classes will be over. We are so blessed to have both these fine young people and their families as part of our church community.

The second weekend will see many of you at the Relay for Life fundraiser. May God bless your efforts. We pray to see a cure for cancer in our lifetime!!

We will also see many of you volunteer at the Food Pantry distributions throughout the summer. Strengthen us to serve you O Lord, by serving our neighbors.

We thank the Lord for all the patience God shows us! As God’s children, by the grace of God, and by faith in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Wow!

So, with grateful hearts, let us come and worship this summer! For it is always in season to come and thank the Lord for all the blessings in our life. It is always in season to Worship and Praise Our Lord!

Bless the Lord O My Soul! [Psalm 104:1]

And God bless all of you!

Pastor Kevin

Sharing from the Heart …

Fresh Lemonade…

A traditional part of our Memorial Day.. and July 4th celebrations! We just can’t get enough of the fresh-squeezed flavor!

Old-Fashioned Lemonade

1 1/3 cups sugar

5 cups water, divided

1 TBSP grated lemon peel

1 ¾ cup lemon juice

(about 10 large lemons)

In a large saucepan, combine sugar, 1 cup water and lemon peel. Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved (about 4 minutes). Remove from heat. Stir in lemon juice and remaining water; refrigerate until cold. Serve over ice.

Do’s and Don’ts…

To get the most juice from the lemons, roll them with the palm of your hand firmly over the counter, or heat in the microwave on high for 10 to 20 seconds.

Making a simple syrup allows the sugar to dissolve and disperse completely instead of sinking to the bottom.

Tweak the basic lemonade for a refreshing flavor twist!

Add 1 TBSP grated ginger and ¼ cup mint leaves when cooking syrup. Strain & enjoy!

Add 2 TBSP chopped fresh basil, rosemary or lavender with the syrup. Strain & enjoy!

Substitute1cup pureed, strained fresh strawberries or raspberries for 1cup of water when making the lemonade!

Enjoy!

Hospital notes…

Blake Jones…..

Bob and I would like to extend a sincere, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has prayed for, thought about, sent cards and visited with Blake. This has been a difficult journey and we could not have done it without the support of our family and friends! We are now asking that you keep Blake in your thoughts and prayers as we prepare for his transition back home. He will need a lot of love and support to make this successful!! Thank you

Michele & Bob
