Building of a Solorider!
Stage five
Cover it
Finally! We are done with the grinding and filling! After more than 150hours we are complete done with this part of the work. Never in my life could I imagine that it would take so many hours and so much filling, more then 20kg actually.
I had to clean the garage which took about 8hours of hard work to get rid of all the dust. It´s not a exaggeration to say that the Garage were white. Everything! I really mean everything was covered with white dust.
We did paint it with two layers of gelcoat in the Garage but we after a few days we started to realize that it didn’t really harden as it should. If you pushed you thumb against the hull it would leave a mark. Not good! Especially since we don’t have unlimited time.
The solution was to move the boat, to my grandparents who were on a two weeks vacation to Egypt. Since gelcoat smell a lot and really bad, it was best to do it when they weren’t at home for a while.
First we painted five layers of gelcoat on the hull, and then we laid one layer of topcoat. You must seal the hull with topcoat if you want to grind the boat or It will only stick.
When the hull was done, we hang the boat and painted the top, five layers plus topcoat here too. We left the boat hanging for two weeks to make sure that it did really harden.
