Thank you once again.

Community Council News

N5 Road Project: Submission was made on behalf of the Community Council to the Oral Hearing in Westport in January. We must now await the decision of An Bord Pleanala.

Wednesday Weekly Get-togather: This project is going very well with 26 to 27 names on our books and some 20 to 22 attending on a regular basis. At our last meeting all the volunteers were highly complimented for their excellent work and dedication to the project. Transport, which had been working very well, is currently experiencing some difficulty, but temporary arrangements are in place and it is hoped to have permanent transport arrangements in place soon. The current phase of the project is due for review on 27th February and from then onwards the project will be re-viewed on a yearly basis.

Communmity Council/GAA Development Project 2014: Flyers were posted to all households in our community during the week. The formal launch of the project took place in The Halfway House last night. There is a very positive approach to this project from within both organisations and we look forward to receiving great support throughout our community and beyond.

Parish clean-up: In view of the alarming amount of rubbish, which continues to be illegally dumped throughout our parish, the matter of our Annual Parish Clean-up was discussed at our meeting on 11th February. The Secretary will be making contact with the Environment Dept of Mayo County Council and arrangements for this important civic event will be finalised at our March meeting. Any volunteers to help with the collection of rubbish will be most welcome.

Dryers in Laundry Room: For the benefit of those who use these dryers on a regular basis we wish to inform you that it is hoped to have this service restored very soon. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Reid’s X and other environmental issues: Following discussion at our February meeting it is hoped to arrange a meeting between the Community Council Village Enhancement Group and Patsy Burke, Senior Engineer, MCC in the near future.

Meeting with Elected Councillors: With the date fast approaching for the Local Elections plans are being put in place to invite all elected members of MCC, for the Islandeady Electoral Area, to our April meeting. We hope to finalise our list of issues at our next meeting. If you feel there are issues and concerns out there that we need to bring to the attention of our elected representatives please contact your Community Council representative with the details.

The next meeting of Islandeady Community Council is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 11thMarch at 8pm in the Community Centre.
