Kurdish prisoners’ collective hunger strike in Maku

London (KurdishMedia.com) 12 January 2009: Widespread hunger strike in Maku Prison reported as a great number of Kurdish political prisoners went on hunger strike last Sunday to protest over bad prison conditions.

Pro-human rights’ students of Kurdistan on Friday stated: A great number of Kurdish entered their 7th day of hunger strike.

A great number of Kurdish political prisoners in Maku went on hunger strike last Sunday to protest over bad prison conditions, officials’ disregard for their trails’ regulatory procedures, discrimination against the Kurdish prisoners, lopsided verdicts, and deprivation from prisoners’ rights such as medical leaves and treatments.

The unbearable conditions of this prison remain unchanged, while it has been declared that two members of the Kurdish opposition groups by the names Ramazan Ahmad and Farhad Chalesh newly received death sentence.

All this happing while access to any information regarding the conditions inside Maku prison becomes increasingly harder. However, the following names’ participation in the hunger strike has been confirmed:

1- Rostam Arkia, son of Rahim, death sentence, charge: Muharaba [enemy of God and His rule on earth].

2- Ramazan Ahamad, death sentence, charge: Muharaba .

3- Farhad Chalesh, death sentence, charge: Muharaba.

4- Saeid Aghuz, 3 sparate charge: 1, 10, and15 years.

5- Asa‘ad Ahname

6- Ibrahim Iqbali

7- Husein Amiq

8- Nabi Taqlidi

9- Hamid Taymorosh

10- Khalif Haji

11- Hasan Chilan, Son of Haji ‘Ali, three separate charges: 4, 10, and 15 years.

12- Ardashir delayi Milan

13- ‘Ali Rasuli

14- Saeid Rasefi

15- Ibrahim Farmand

16- Saeid Omarpour, son of Ibrahim, 4years.

17- Muhammad Omarpour two separate charges: 4 and 15 years.

18- ‘Abdulah Omapour, two separate charges: 6 and 13 years.

19- Husein Marvi Milan.

20- ‘Adel Muhammad Nejhad

21- Husein Tali‘I, son of Haji Husein

22- Ibrahim Dadgostar Jeni Kanlu

It’s reported that some of the above prisoners’ health condition is critical and they need urgent medical treatment.

It should be noted, that this is the second big Kurdish prisoners’ hunger strike [in the last several moths], which 80 political prisoners form 8 different prisons had participated in the preceding hunger strike. The earlier one had lasted for 47 days, which in August 26 prisoners from this very same prison (of Maku) had joined the strike.
