4th October 2013

Dear Parent/Carers

We are so pleased with how our reading event went yesterday morning. Over fifty dads, grandads etc. came into school to enjoy different activities related to reading, with their children. There are some great photos of the event, which will be on display in the main corridor if you would like to see them. Many thanks to those of you who attended and a big thank you to Mrs Wainwright, our reading manager, for organising the event. We look forward to similar events in the future.

  • Thank you to those children who have already submitted an entry for the Houses of Parliament visit. The closing date is Friday 25th October.
  • A big well done to the children for raising £172 for ‘Jeans for Genes’ day.
  • A reminder- please do not park on the cross-hatching outside the school. This is dangerous and it could have serious consequences for our children.
  • There will be the first ‘Friends of Engaines’ meeting (our PTA) on Friday 18th October, at 3.15pm in the ICT suite. Crèche facilities are available.

The Friends of Engaines help the children at our school to have lots of special extra activities and treats that as a school we could not afford to do. These include discos, the summer falconry display, our reading hut and so much more. It is these things that the children remember, so if you would like to be part of this fund-raising group, then please come along and I look forward to seeing you there.

  • O2 trip for the school choir- there will be a cake sale to help raise money for this trip, as the coach costs are very expensive. If your child could bring in some money for a cake (20p is fine) that would be great.
  • Some of the older children are arriving too early at school and being left unsupervised. The school gates open at 8.45am and there is no supervision before then. If you need to drop your children off at an earlier time, our breakfast club is available from 8.00am at a cost of £1.20 or free if you are in receipt of free school meals.
  • The children would like Engaines to have a mascot and the School Council would like to run a competition for this. The children need to submit their entries on an A4 sheet, with their name, age and class on the back. Again the closing date will be 25th October.
  • The designs for the front doors are now at the printers and I shall be letting the children know of the winning entries in the next couple of weeks. (This was a competition that was run in the summer term).

Missing Clothes

Please can you check your children’s jumpers and cardigans as there are a lot of children with missing ones in KS1. Please can you ensure that all clothing is named. Thank you.
