My relationship with Shin still exists now, 20 years on (footage of Leah teaching Takada and St. Monica’s students is shown whilst she speaks) and is probably the reason why I launched myself somewhat unknowingly, at first, into a career here at St. Monica’s College where I am still involved in Japanese Education.”

Ben Coleman: “For the last 3 years I have had the opportunity to teach science for a double session to the Takada students. I really enjoy this opportunity (Footage of Ben showing Takada students live native Australian reptiles in science class) it gives me a chance to ask questions about what science is like in Japan and more importantly (Footage of Ben taking the students through different types water insects living in the school wetlands) give the students an opportunity to do some of the pracs and some of the experiments we do in Australia.”

Graphic fades in reading: Mr Brian Hanley

Brian Hanley sitting down: “The sister school relationship between St. Monica’s College Epping and Takada High school is one of the most significant inter (photo of Takada students trying Vegimite) cultural activities we have at our school and it has gone on for the last 20 years. I’m going to quote from this very important document here, and this in fact was from the original declaration of the sister school relationship between St. Monica’s College and Takada Junior and Senior High school (image of Japanese partof the document scrolls up the screen). It was signed by me on the 28th of March 1995 and it was also signed by the Principal Tanaka Sensei at Takada Highschool. Amongst other things the declaration says: That the two schools hold in common, that we have fully developed and conducted our education (image of Japanese Shrine scrolls up screen) based on our respective religious belief (image of Golden temple in Kyoto pans across screen).(image of Japanese Shrine Pans across screen) Appreciating the differences between us, we should do our utmost for the continuation of our relationship (image of Takada students with old police officer at Sovereign Hill) and consequently contribute to understanding our (image of Takda students learning to surf pans across screen) cultural differences to international understanding and world peace. Now if they’re not wonderful values for young Australians and Japanese I don’t know what are.”
