The Parents Association would like to welcome everyone into 2010.

Christmas Fair News:

As we settle back into our school routine after a long Christmas Break we would like to take this opportunity to look back at the HUGE SUCCESS of our ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FAIR.

We could not have done it without the help of the Principals, Staff, Caretakers, Volunteers, Sponsors, and of course those who attended, A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO ALL.

** If anyone bought a pair of “odd sizes” purple boots at the fair, we have the matchers – please contact the parents association!!**

The list of winners of our raffle are as follows:

§  1st prize, 32”LCD TV – Ciaran Murphy

§  2nd Prize, €150 Costcutters Voucher – Emma Sweeney

§  3rd Prize, Christmas Hamper – Liz Dixon

§  4th Prize, Dinner for 2, Crowne Plaza – S Lawlor

§  Castleknock Green Fees Raffle – Zita Griffin

Christmas Decoration Competition:

The parents association would like to thank all the children who participated in the competition. Some of the entrants were very ingenious and recycled into some amazing tree decorations. Santa did the honours in the Junior School in presenting the prizes (and even got a kiss from Ms Scannell as his reward!). Ms Corrigan did the presentation in the Senior School. We had a first and second prize in all classes and a 3rd prize was awarded in some classes. WELL DONE TO ALL. There are photos of the Sr School entrants on the website (Sr School link).

Car Parking: As of 25th Jan, the Blanchardstown Gardaí will be randomly selecting schools to monitor the parking situations and will be ticketing those illegally parked. Please be warned. This issue was raised by the Safer Blanchardstown Forum and the Fingal Joint Policing Committee to reduce the current trend of dangerous parking in housing estates during drop off and pick up times at schools. (as stated in the recent Northsider News). Some people continue to park carelessly outside the school gates much to the annoyance of local residents. Last week, because of this, the bin men could not access Glenville Way. As the school is being blamed for this, we do not have any choice but to ask the local Gardaí to intervene

Punctuality: As school does not commence until 9.00am, for insurance and health purposes, children should not arrive until shortly before that time. At present, some children arrive as early as 8.15am. We also have TOO many children arriving well after 9.00am and their arrival causes class disturbances. Despite repeated requests to parents to be punctual in collecting their children from school, some parents continue to arrive late. When this occurs on a regular basis, it can be extremely damaging to the confidence of the child/children involved.

Flood Relief Coffee Morning: - This was held in the Junior School back in Dec, and was a great success.Over €1500 was raised – Thank you to all who contributed. The thank you letter from the St Vincent De Paul is posted on the website.

Senior School Haiti Cake Sale: held by the 6th Classes, it raised over €1000 for the Haiti Appeal – well done (more on this on the website)

Parent / Teacher Meetings Senior School. – These were held in Dec 09, and a lovely presentation of the Senior School 2D artwork was on display, - Thank you to those that put this together. It is always a pleasure to see such a display of excellence.,

Parent / Teacher Meetings Junior School. – These will be held after mid-term and parents will be notified in advance and appointments made.

Swine Flu Injections: Thank you to the school for the smooth running of the administration of this programme.

Immunisation for Junior Infants : The routine immunisation of the Jr Infants (the ‘4 in 1’ and the MMR) will commence after the swine flu vaccination programme. Parents of the Junior Infants will receive consent forms soon. Please complete and return them as soon as possible.

Emergency Contact Numbers: Please ensure that the school has enough relevant contact number to allow them to successfully contact a reliable person in the case of an emergency for your child.

Enrolments: Parents intending to enrol their child in Junior Infants for Sept 2010, can complete an application form in the school between 01/02/10 and 26/02/10. Please bring child’s birth cert, baptismal cert (if baptised), your child’s PPS no. and proof of address i.e recent utility bill. (Please see sfxns.ie, for full information). Children must be 4 years old by 01/09/10. Please pass this information around to your friends and neighbours living in the Parish of St Brigid, D15).

Mobile phones: We are still gratefully accepting any old mobile phones for recycling. AND Can all parents please remind their children on the safe use of mobile phones especially when crossing roads etc.

Sympathies: We wish to pass on our sincere sympathies to Mr John Merrigan on the death of his brother – Mr Laurence Merrigan

Christmas Carols – these were held in the church on 15th Dec, and well attended despite the windy weather. – truly uplifting, a school tradition of the best kind.

I am sure I speak on behalf of all the parents and guardians, when we say how much we enjoyed the school Christmas plays, concerts and shows. Well done to all the kids and teachers (or should I say “directors”) alike.
