St. Francis Girl’s Hockey Team Handbook

(Pre- season portion)

ABSENCE RULES:

  1. All absences must be approved by the coach. If an athlete is ill, coach must see a signed note from an athletic trainer or doctor. In cases such as the flu, player can contact a coach, and the desired absence must be approved.

You have committed to this team. Be there and bring your heart.

  1. For every unapproved absence, the player will miss one period of the next game. If on varsity they will sit one period of varsity, if on jv, they will sit one period of jv.

Ex: approved absences are situations like illnesses, family emergencies, etc. Unapproved absences are things like skipping because you’re tired, or don’t feel well. Other unapproved absences are vacations. If you miss three days of practice because of a vacation, you will have to sit three periods. Take vacations outside of the season.

* If you miss a game due to an unapproved absence, you must sit a full game.

  1. Injury: If you are out because of an injury, you are expected to come to practice and games, and help the team in other ways.

  1. Other school activities that would require you to miss a practice or game other than class must be approved by the coach in advance.

BUS:

All players are required to ride the bus as a team to and from games and team activities. If a player needs to ride home with a family member on away trips, the coach must have a signed form from the parent 24 hours in advance. (The coach will provide this form at the onset of the season). No forms will be accepted the day of the game. Only in extenuating circumstances such as injury, illness, or family emergency will a player be allowed to ride home with parents on game day without the form. This also must be approved by the coach.

CELL PHONE POLICY:

Cell phones will be turned off during practice and dryland. On game day, cell phones will be turned off when you come to the rink until your game is over (Same situation on away trips). If this is not followed, coaches will collect cell phones on game days.

DRESS CODE:

Home Games: Dress Clothes (dress pants, etc).

Away Games: For travel, we will dress as a team in our travel warm-ups.

Pre-game Warm-up: Pre-game warm-up will be done as a team. You will wear your team t-shirt and short for this. You must have them for games.

DRIVING RULES:

Driving form must be signed if parent wants another player/student to drive their kid.

DRYLAND:

There will be dryland every day, either before or after practice depending on the schedule. These times will be laid out for you at the onset of the season. Dryland will last between 10 and 30min. This is part of practice and is required.

LETTERING CRITERIA:

  1. Must Dress 24 Varsity Periods
  2. Must have attended two u10 practices and two u15 games to support the youth players. That schedule will be given out at the start of the season. We will do our best to attend these as a team.
  3. Must have participated in at least one team fundraising event.

MOUTH GUARDS & JEWELRY:

Our mouth guard policy is that you must wear your mouth guard during any drill in practice where contact is incorporated; and obviously need it during games. Jewelry will be removed during practice and games. NO EXCEPTIONS. Hold each other accountable.
