ST-Ericsson Appoints Didier Lamouche as President andCEO

Didier Lamouche,who retains the title of chief operating officer of STMicroelectronics, has served on the board of ST-Ericsson since April 2011 and brings more than twenty-five years of IT and semiconductor industry experience to the role.Lamouche was named Chevalier of the Legion of Honor (France) in 2010.Didier Lamouche was born in Meknès, Morocco, in 1959. He is a graduate of the École Centrale of Lyon, France, and holds a PhD in semiconductor technology.

Specialty foundry Altis Semiconductor has appointed Vincent Marcel Chief Financial Officer and member of the Executive Board. He takes over responsibility for the company's overall financial management, and analysis, strategy and planning functions.Vincent Marcel holds Master’s degrees in engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique (Paris) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (Paris) and has received an MBA from INSEAD.

GLOBALFOUNDRIES Names Ajit Manocha as CEO

GLOBALFOUNDRIES appointed Ajit Manocha as the company's Chief Executive Officer on a permanent basis. He had served as interim CEO since June.Manocha is a veteran semiconductor industry executive with more than 30 years of global expertise in operations, general management, and manufacturing. As interim CEO, Manocha has played a critical role in strengthening GLOBALFOUNDRIES. Manocha previously served as Executive VP of Worldwide Operations at Spansion. Earlier he served as Executive VP and Chief Manufacturing Officer at NXP. He began his career as a research scientist at AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Gerry Edwards New Senior VP of Worldwide Operations & Technologyfor Intersil

Edwards joins Intersil from National Semiconductor where he had served as VP of Worldwide Operations and Quality. since 2009. Prior to this role, Edwards served as Vice President, United Kingdom Operations.He holds a BSc in Physics from Lancaster University and an MBA from the University of Wales. He is a past President of Scottish Engineering, and a past Director of the National Microelectronics Institute (UK). He received an OBE for services to Scottish business.

Springsoft Names Mark Milligan as VP Corporate Marketing

Milligan brings more than 20 years of experience to SpringSoft through a variety of executive marketing and business development positions at EDA and semiconductor companies, including serving as president of the Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI) while the organization transitioned the language standard to the IEEE.Milligan has a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Brian Burns Become VP of Sales for Fresco Microchip

Fresco Microchip Inc.has appointed Brian Burns as vice president of sales. Burns received his MBA with honors from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business where he was also an Inter-Pacific Scholar. He also holds a degree in mechanical engineering and oriental languages from the University of California, Berkeley, and has attended Keio University in Japan.

New Officers for CEDA, Donatella Sciuto Becomes President

Professor Donatella Sciuto from Politecnico di Milano in Italy will begin serving a two-year term as president of the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA). Andreas Kuehlmann, senior vice president of R&D at Coverity, will become past president. Other incoming officers include Sani Nassif, manager at IBM, who has been named president-elect, and Yao-Wen Chang, professor at the National Taiwan University, who will become secretary. David Atienza, professor and director of the Embedded Systems Laboratory at EPFL, will serve as vice president of conferences. Shishpal Rawat, Intel’s director of business enabling programs within the design technology solutions group, will fill the role of vice president of finance.Elected to the position of Vice President of Publications is Professor Sachin Sapatnekar from the University of Minnesota, while Joel Phillips, research scientist at Cadence, will become vice president of activities.William Joyner, director of Computer-Aided Design and Test at Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC), will become vice president of strategy, and Professor Rajesh Gupta of the University of California at San Diego. Professor Gupta will assume the role of vice president of publicity.

Micron CEO Steve Appleton Honored By Peers

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced that Steve Appleton, Chairman and CEO of Micron Technology, Inc., has been named the 2011 recipient of SIA’s highest honor, the Robert N. Noyce Award. SIA presents the Noyce Award annually in recognition of an industry leader that has made a significant contribution to the U.S. semiconductor industry in technology or public policy. By keeping the U.S. industry a strong player in the memory industry despite the targeting of this segment by foreign industries, Appleton has helped not only Micron, but also the overall U.S. semiconductor industry and its infrastructure.

The GSA Honors Dr. Henry Samueli

The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) named industry pioneer and co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, Dr. Henry Samueli, as the 2011 winner of the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award. Dr. Samueli is currently Broadcom’s Chief Technology Officer. He earned his Ph.D. degree from UCLA, designed military broadband communications systems at TRW, Inc. and then became an electrical engineering professor at UCLA. His team achieved many breakthrough developments by proving that low-cost CMOS technologies (1.0um in those days) could be used to implement all the key digital, analog and RF building blocks to enable multi-hundred Mbit/sec digital communications transceivers operating at GHz RF frequencies.
