Job Title:PIONEER MISSION ENABLER

Location:ST CHRISTOPHER’S CHURCH (LEP), RED LODGE

Responsibleto:The Pioneer Mission Enablerwillbeemployedbythe Ely & NewmarketCircuitto be Line Managed by the Superintendent

Work as a team with the Methodist and Anglican ministers at St Christopher’s LEP Red Lodge

The project will be overseen by an ecumenical steering group.

PurposeTo promote Christian mission and discipleship with those outside the life of the church especially amongst 20-40 year olds as part of the vision of St Christopher’sLEP and exploring possibilities of Fresh Expressions of Church.

ObjectivesDevelop mission and discipleship amongst unchurched young Families and singles (20-40year olds) especially in areas of new housing.

Build a team from within St Christopher’s LEP and beyond to live as authentic disciples in this neighbourhood and engage in this mission in the long term.

Build life enhancing relationships with unchurched people through listening, acts of loving service and opportunities to experience Christian Community.

Offer appropriate opportunities to become followers of Jesus Christ in ways that are relevant, accessible and engaging.

Build on links with St Christopher’s School, Community Centre and Preschool group.

In due time create/adapt appropriate forms

of collective worship

Liveand workasneighbourstotheemerginglocal housing inthe village centre,being partof avisibleChristianpresenceinthe community.

SupporttheoverallvisionofanopenandinclusiveChristiancentre.

Setupandleadaregular seeker groupaimedatprovidingChristianfellowshipfor20-40 yearolds.

Build on the relationships between the Church, St Christopher Robins Pre-school and St Christopher’s LEP

AttendChurchCouncil meetingsandmeetingsof thechurch stewards as required. (Other meetingsonly tobeattendedwhenspeciallyrequested).

Keep adequate recordsofcontactsandofworkundertaken.

Appraiseandreviewinitiativesset upandactivitiesundertaken,andchangewhere necessarytheactionandfocusof workafterdiscussionwith,andagreement,fromthe managementgroup.

Anyotherdutiesandresponsibilities,identifiedbytheministerasarewithin your capabilities andlevel ofresponsibility,in ordertomeettheneedsof thechurch.

Terms andconditions

Termsofappointment: FixedTerm for three years

The starting salarywillbe£12.00 perhour (£21,840 per annum).

Normalworkingpattern:35hours per week pattern to be agreed.

The person would be expected to worship on Sundays at St Christopher’s LEP

Opportunitiesforstudy andfortraining,

Allreasonableexpenseswillbe reimbursed.

At leastonedayfreeof responsibilitieseachweek.

28 daysstatutoryannualleaveentitlementper year(pro-ratafor part-timeWorkers).

Appointmentwillbe subject to asatisfactoryEnhanced DisclosureDebarringService(DBS) disclosure.

Appointmentwillbe subject to satisfactoryreferences

Appointmentwillbe subject to thesatisfactorycompletionof three-month probationaryperiod.

Management and Support

The Pioneer Mission Enablerwillbe line managed by the Circuit Superintendent Minister. They will be responsible to ensure:

  • Priorities of the role are understood and are being met.
  • Development needs are identified and addressed
  • Contact is made with other pioneer minsters in the area for support and growth
  • MonitorandevaluateprogresswiththeCommunity Mission Enabler onaregularbasis

Day to day the lay worker will work as a team with the local minsters (Methodist and Anglican) with pastoral oversight of St Christopher’s LEP. They will :

  • Becomefamiliar with theworkof theLay Employee.
  • WorkwiththePioneer Mission Enablertoencouragethe church to respondtonew challenges andopportunitiesin mission.
  • Determinepriorities forthe work.
  • Ensuregoodcommunicationsbetween all interest groups and networks involved.

A support group will be formed to:

  • EnsurethatthePioneer Mission Enablerreceivessuitablepastoralsupport
  • Actasa“soundingboard” to thePioneer Mission Enabler.

Potential Development Plan

Year OneGather team with agreed common values to pray, study and share hospitality.

Engage in 3600 listening to the community through mission audit (e.g. ‘Listening for Mission’ – mission audit and Share booklet)

Discernment of the ‘people of peace’ to partner with.

Attend Mission Shaped Ministry course with team.

Determine appropriate action of loving service drawing in other

resources as needed.

Establish a pathway of discipleship that is appropriate & accessible.

Year TwoReview Year One and reflect on learning especially from approaches

that did not work.

Continue acts of loving service to build community.

Increase frequency of one to one contact with ‘people of peace’

Offer opportunities to explore more deeply the Christian faith.

Identify potential leaders within team and give increased responsibility

Year ThreeReview Year Two reflect on learning especially from approaches

that did not work.

Delegate leadership of aspects of the work ideally to indigenous

leadership.

Offer appropriate opportunities to explore Christian faith with possibility of public profession of faith (Baptism or renewal of Baptismal vows).

Recruit new team members as needed.

Review Year Three with Line manager and Steering Group.
