St Bees RNLI 18 Call Outs in 2017

1:49 pm on Wednesday 4 January - assist Whitehaven HM Coastguard in the search for a vulnerable adult who was last seen around Whitehaven Harbour.

4:40pm on Friday 12 March - assist Whitehaven HM Coastguard and Cumbria Fire and Rescue. A young male was trapped on rocks close to Whitehaven Harbour.

9:00am on Sunday 2 April - assist Whitehaven HM Coastguard with removing an obstruction that was considered to be a hazard to shipping at the entrance of Whitehaven.

3:35pm on Sunday 2 April - went to the aid of a teenager caught out by the rising tide close to Whitehaven Harbour. The lifeboat was able to get up close enough to the stranded teenager to enable them to get safely onboard.

10:40pm on Friday 19 May – carried out a shoreline search assisted by Whitehaven HM Coastguard. A member of the public reported what they thought could be someone in difficulties. A false alarm with good intent.

11:58am on Thursday 8 June – towed in a 9 metre yacht that was struggling in rough conditions 4 miles out from Whitehaven back to the Harbour.

11:06pm on Thursday 8 June – asked to assist Whitehaven HM Coastguard & Cumbria police with a shoreline search along St Bees Beach.

3:45am on Monday 3 July – towed in a 10.5m yacht with engine failure into Whitehaven Harbour.

7:30pm on Tuesday 18 July – called away from a training exercise to attend a casualty with head injuries close to St Bees Lighthouse.

3:50pm on Sunday 23 July – assisted a small fishing boat that was out of fuel. The boat was refuelled, restarted and escorted home.

8:25pm on Wednesday 26 July– Carried out a shoreline search for a missing person, they were found safe further inland.

9:00pm on Wednesday 26 July– Carried out first aid to a kite surfer with minor injuries.

4:05pm on Wednesday 6 September– launched to a 25 foot yacht on route to Whitehaven with engine failure.

9:25am on Saturday 16 September– launched along with four other RNLI lifeboats and an independent lifeboat, as well as Whitehaven Coastguard and the Coastguard S.A.R. helicopter to a kayaker capsized attempting to cross to the Isle of Man. Casualty found safe & well & airlifted to safety.

8:40pm on Saturday 16 September – asked by UK Coastguard to go to the assistance of young person on St Bees beach. The casualty had fallen and injured his leg on the rocks. Under the supervision of the Paramedics the young person was carried on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

9:47pm on Saturday 19 October – launched to assist Cumbria Fire and Rescue and Whitehaven HM Coastguard. A vehicle was in Whitehaven harbour. The lifeboat was stood down by UK Coastguard shortly after launching.

6:00pm on Tuesday 7 November – at the start of the Tuesday training a crew member saw a possible distress signal on the lifeboats on-board computer. UK Coastguard requested we carry out a search of the area; with nothing found the crew continued with the training exercise.

6:06pm on Tuesday 14 November – While on exercise requested by UK Coastguard to assist Cumbria Police with a coastline search for a missing person. They were found safe inland.

9:55pm on 22 December – Paged after a 999 call about a despondent adult. This was a false alarm with malicious intent.
