SSHBPC Senior Camp

Sunday 12thAugust – Friday 17thAugust at Berriewood

Cost: £230.00. Balance of £110.00 should be paid by 1st August 2012, (payable to SSHBPC) and sent to Kate Varley, Coley Brook Farm, Wall Bank, Church Stretton, SY6 7JA.Camp is only for those members who have attended at least 2 Pony Club Activities one of which must be mounted since September 2011. (At the discretion of the DC members who have not attended 2 activities may be allowed to attend.)

ARRIVAL: Please arrive with your horse/pony and all equipment between 10.00am and 11.00am on Sunday 12th August. Camp staff will be on hand to tell you where to park and unload. There will be time to settle your horse/pony, unload equipment and set up horse boxes/trailers/caravans or erect tents before having a picnic lunch at 12.30 together. (Please bring lunch with you) You will then ride in the afternoon.

Parents are required to be off-site by 12.00pm- please take trailers and horseboxes with you - if you are not using them for sleeping accommodation.

There will be no lunch provided on the first day - so please bring a packed lunch with you.

Tack and Turnout will be judged each day – starting on Sunday so make sure you bring a clean pony and tack with you!

Timetables will be posted around camp – including the RDA room. Please read it as soon as possible and familiarise yourself with the routine.

PARENTS: Please help children on the Sunday to unload equipment and erect tents but please be ready to leave camp by 12 noon.

Post camp - everything will need to be dismantled and removed on the Friday afternoon - please could youensure tents are dismantled and removed before you leave - along with all other items and personal possessions you have brought to camp. Parents - when you have removed your child’s possessions - please ask or look at the list for other jobs that need to be done - prize-giving cannot take place until all clearing-up has been completed.

A cake from each member to offer at morning and afternoon breaks would be much appreciated!

In addition. we need your help with the smooth running of camp. It is essential that each family sending a child/children to campvolunteers a parent/adult helper to help for at least one session during camp. We need helpers at each meal time and to accompany rides on the cross country course.

There is also a medical form which mustbe completedbeforecoming to camp. No child can be left at camp unless I have one of these forms.

During camp – at all times parents must report to Kate upon entering camp.

There are to be NO bikes at camp this year.

HORSE/PONY:

Tack – saddle, bridle etc + spare numnah

Headcollar + leadrope

Tack-cleaning equipment inc. small bucket, sponge and cloth

Grooming kit, inc. separate sponges for eyes and dock areas

Hoof oil and brush

Plaiting bands

Full hay net

Hard feed for the week

2 water buckets

Rubber gloves for mucking out

Large plastic bin for mucking out

Fork, shovel and broom for mucking out

New Zealand rug if your horse is to be out and needs one at night

A large plastic box to store all of your equipment in the tack room

Saddle horse if you have one

Shavings if required

Again, please ensure that ALL of your belongings are clearly marked.

GENERAL NOTES

Ponies must be newly shod

ALL tack must be checked for wear and tear before you come to camp and repaired where necessary

The committee cannot be held responsible for any items lost or mislaid

COMPETITION DAY: On Friday 17thAugust– parents are welcome to attend. Please can all parentsprovide a packed lunch for their children attending camp and themselves if attending competition day.There will be no lunch or supper provided on Friday 17th August.

DEPARTURE: On Friday 17thAugust this will be as close as possible to 4.00pm (provided competitions and clearing up are completed).

PLEASE NOTE: All stables, yard areas, tack rooms and the camp site must be left clean and tidy. It is the responsibility of each member and their parents to complete thisto the satisfaction of camp staff before leaving Berriewood.

BASIC RULES:

Breaking these rules will incur instant expulsion - you will have to go home.

  1. Under no circumstance will the consumption of alcohol or smoking by campers be permitted at camp.
  2. No water fights.
  3. No campers are to leave camp without the permission of the DC.
  4. You must heed the advice of camp staff and instructors at all times.
  5. No leaving the tented village after 9.00 pm without permission from the DC.
  6. No riding horses in and out of the main yard.
7.Unacceptable behaviour will not be tolerated.

Please be courteous to all Berriewood and camp staff - and respect your surroundings.
