Ss. Simon and Jude Cemetery

Rules and Regulations as of July, 2012

Terminology

  • Burial Rights Holder is the purchaser of burial rights in the cemetery. Purchasers buy the right of interment; the cemetery retains the ownership of the land (graves).
  • Grave Space is a parcel of land marking an individual grave, large enough for a regular adult burial (10’x42”).
  • Lot is a parcel of land containing more than one individual grave space.
  • Section is part of the cemetery containing multiple lots and grave spaces.
  • Cremains are the cremated remains of a deceased person.
  • No more than two remains in one plot.
  • Cremains may be placed in the plot with vaults.

Responsibilities of the Cemetery

  • New graves will be leveled and seeded after they have settled.
  • Ss. Simon & Jude Church provides mowing, trimming and general maintenance of the grounds.
  • Ss. Simon & Jude Church retains the right to review and recommend approval of landscaping projects. Planting of shrubs, trees, rose bushes or perennial flowers is not permitted by the holders of burial rights.
  • Flowers, vases, floral arrangements, statues or other decorations will be removed by the cemetery without consulting the burial rights holders on clean-up dates or if they interfere with mowing, trimming or the overall ground aesthetics. Grave blankets will be removed if causing damage to the grass.
  • The cemetery will mark the ground for installation of foundations.

Responsibilities of Burial Rights Holders

  • Transfer of burial rights to a third party must have the prior approval of the Pastor. Burial rights transfers for personal profit is prohibited. Contact the parish office for information.
  • The family is responsible for providing a monument that marks the grave within six months.
  • Symbols/emblems/verse on monuments must reflect the Catholic/Christian values of the cemetery. All monument designs must be approved by the pastor before installing. Ss. Simon and Jude Cemetery reserves the right to remove a marker or monument if it is deemed inappropriate.
  • For existing monuments or markers, the decedent’s name and/or death date must be etched on it. The decedent’s family is responsible for providing this information and payment to the monument company.
  • Grave markers/monuments are the personal property of the holders of burial rights. Insurance coverage is at the holder’s discretion.
  • Care of grave flowers including removal of funeral flowers, vases, etc. are the responsibility of the burial rights holders.
  • No planting or placement of permanent objects is allowed within the cemetery.
  • During mowing season, items such as flower pots, wreaths etc. may be placed at the head of the grave as long as it does not extend more that 12” from the face or sides of the monument. No object is permitted to the rear of the grave stone and all objects must be less than 36” in height.
  • Artificial flower arrangements are permitted only from December to April 1.

Grave costs and associated fees must be paid prior to internment:
