EarthWorkscombine theoretical concepts with experiential exercises based on Joanna Macy’s work in social and ecological spirituality. Her work draws together Buddhist philosophy, systems theory and deep ecology into a workshop format that enables participants to experience social and environmental inter-connectedness. This powerful combination provides a wealth of resources for individuals to sustain their work for personal and political change

EarthWorks gives you the opportunity to:

  • Collectively explore and examine our responses to the current world situation
  • Experience a deepening of connection to the natural world
  • Clarify your intentions and visions, and move them into action
  • Develop new strategies and perspectives for social change work
  • Build community through shared times of silence and meditation, song and story, bushwalking, and more
  • Take a break!… refresh in the bush, enjoy the organic food

EarthWorks facilitators Emma Pittaway and Claire Dunn have both trained with and draw on the work of Joanna Macy (

Their social change experience includes environmental campaign management, grassroots activism, community development, refugee advocacy, and Buddhist practice.

Author, musician and film-maker John Seed is a longtime rainforest activist and facilitator of deep ecology workshops. See
