Spring-Summer 2015 – Bonne Bay Marine Station Field Courses

How to Register

•Complete a Bonne Bay Marine Station Course Request Formavailable from Fiona Cuthbert (SN1100), Trudy Taylor-Walsh ()or the Biology General Office - Make sure your MUN email address is on the form - Deliver to the Biology General Office (St. John’s Campus) or fax to 709 864 3018byFeb 27th, 2015at 5pm.

IMPORTANT: Passing in this form does NOT mean you are registered for the courses – this form is for departmental information purposesonly.Students who have completed course prerequisites will be able to register during their assigned on-line registration window beginning March 23rd, 2015. Students who have not completed the required prerequisites should contact FionaCuthbert () or Karen Morris () for further consideration.

Course Tuition

•Tuition fees are paid through the Cashier’sOffice or via your online account.

Damage Deposit

•A reservation and security deposit for each course is required at the time of registration

•Damage Deposits are still required from students who do not stay in residence.

•Damage Deposits are paid through the Cashier’s Office or via your online account.

•Deposit will be refunded at the end of the semester providing:

1. You do not drop B3709 after Friday April 18 at 5pm;

2. You do not drop B4710, B3714, B3014, B4912 after May 2 at 5pm;

3. No damage to equipment and accommodations has occurred

Residence and Meals

•Accommodation and meal charges are posted in the table above.

•Fees are paid at the station at the beginning of each course.

•Payable to the Bonne Bay Marine Station – cheque, cash, VISA, MC, debit.

•Students are not obligated to live at the Station.

•Once registered please contact Trudy Taylor-Walsh if you need to stay in residence – indicate room-mate preferences if any and any dietary needs

Lab Bench Fee

•All students must pay the $50.00 lab bench fee for each course (see table) regardless if you are staying in residence.

Travel

•Arrive at the station the Sunday evening after 5p.m. (rooms are not available prior to this time)

•DRL coach lines or airlines to Deer Lake (flights must arrive during day light hours)

•Students are expected to car pool and find their own way to the station. Students will receive an email prior to the course with a list of student contacts.

•If you are driving and can take someone please contact Trudy Taylor-Walsh

•If a car pool arranged by/ with other students is not available students should contact Pittman’s Taxi in Norris Point at least 24hrs in advance of arrival at 458-2486or Deer Lake Taxi at (709) 635-2521.

Internet

•Computer or laptopstrongly recommended - common use computers are limited

•Students coming from other universities must be set up with EDUROAM before arrival

•MUN wireless accounts should connect automatically. Ensure that you know your current login/pw information to facilitate the transition. Your wireless account must be set up in St. John’s or Corner Brook in advance.

What to bring

•Warm clothes for earlier courses, sweaters, hats, mitts etc

•Rain gear and tall rubber boots

•Comfortable walking footwear

•Extra towels (optional) (one towel provided per student)

•Extra bedding (optional) (bed linen and one pillow provided)

•Toiletries including soap

•Alarm clock (optional) – none provided

•Pens, notebooks, computer paper, calculator etc

•Waterproof field notebook (can be bought at station)

•Laptop or computer (strongly recommended)

•Suntan lotion – even when it is cold out you can burn!

•We provide floater suits or life vests but bring your own if you have one

•Reusable water bottle

•Fly spray
