PAWS and Breathe
It's that time of year again! Students worried and stressed over taking state tests! Our wonderful PTA President, Shannon Zdancewicz, and her lovable lab, Sampson, have a solution that just might help alleviate the stressful testing mornings and a little fun before the day begins. Statistics show that taking a few minutes to love on a dog, reduces blood pressure and has a calming effect on people. Shannon and Sampson will bewalking around and visiting classrooms between 7:00-7:40 on testing days. Thank you Shannon and Sampsonfor this support!

From the Clinic
Springtime is here and seasonal allergies have been causing a lot of discomfort at RNE. Here is some information that may be helpful. Although symptoms can be different for each person, the following are commons symptoms of seasonal allergies: Sneezing, itchy nose and throat, itchy, red and/or watery eyes, stuffy nose, clear runny nose, or coughing.

Symptoms of the common cold are similar but usually last only 7-10 days. Symptoms lasting longer may be due to allergies. Fever and body aches are NOT a symptom of allergies and may require a doctor visit.

Pay particular attention if your child has asthma. Seasonal allergies can trigger asthma symptoms. If your child has asthma he/she may need pre-treatment before playing outside on high-pollen days. Call the school clinic if your child will need to keep an inhaler at school.

There is no real cure for allergies, but it is possible to reduce symptoms:

- Stay indoors when pollen counts are high.

- Keep windows closed and run air conditioner when needed.

- Change clothing and wash hands and face after playing outside.

- Take a shower and wash hair before going to bed.

- Clean and dust your home regularly.

- Use an air purifier with a HEPA filter when sleeping.

- Talk to your health care provider about medications to alleviate symptoms.

A website to check pollen count is: You can also receive smog alert information updates by signing up on
